sent Stacey a parcel yesterday - she texted me this morning saying she's received an empty envelope. i'd sent her a cd and her signed ghosts vinyl. some bugger has stolen it envelope was definitely sealed and taped shut by me. i feel really bad the cd was only a joke thing i'd bought her, but losing the vinyl sucks big time. trying to find her a replacement - just need to get to another signing. *watches ebay for it*

Don't feel bad Chlo, not your fault.
Whoever nicked it took the time to peel off the tape carefully but was obvious it had been opened as envelope was barely sticky anymore.
I'm just about to email Royal Mail. I want none of their crap about insuring post. I can understand that when they're dealing with truckloads of mail a day stuff goes missing and yes insuring for that is ok but i shouldn't have to insure against thieves.
I'll pm you postage details Chlo if you wanna complain too.
So yes if anyone spot s a signed Ghosts vinyl on ebay which will say "To Stacey..." let me know.

You should definitely complain. The Royal Mail can't be allowed to get away with its consistently shoddy service.

;D
Just got an automated response asking me to provide more details (postage dates, sender/addressee info etc).
Could they not have asked for this on the complaints form?

God, that sucks! How is it that I can get an intact parcel from the UAE or Germany, whereas you can't even send a parcel from one part of Blighty to another! I officially hate your mail service.

They are bastards and completely useless, sorry to hear that Chlo and Stacey.
I bought something off eBay around Christmas, and I emailed the seller to ask when it was being sent, only for them to reply that they'd already sent it. Apparently they get this every Christmas, a load of Royal Mail temporary staff just nick stuff from the post. The seller was nice enough to send me another at his expense but he was understandably pissed off by it.

i think Royal Mail post is covered up to £32 approx, even if just sent with a first class stamp, so you should be able to get something back from the Post Office. I bet it's a shit of a process to do though! I never got my Turn signed 7" White Label oh so many years ago because it went missing in the post *sobs*

The postman snapped my suffocate 7" in half in order to get it through the letterbox. Yes, snapped it in half.
Promised me £35 compensation, never got it though.

I never received my signed L+F discs, i told Recordstore, who offered to send me another copy but unsigned, so not quite the same. but they did give me money off my next order. nothing from the Royal Mail though, you have to send everything recorded delivery, it's more expensive but at least it gets there

This reminds me, I saw an envelope on the floor this morning (by the floor, I mean under the letter hole that the post comes in ) and it was for my dad. It was in a little clear plastic pouch with 'Lost or damaged post' or something similar written on it, and on the front of the envelope 'Empty, [date], [signature]. Can't imagine my dad was happy, they were from the accountants who work with 'the family business'. :/

It's taken them nearly 4 weeks to come up with this:
"Dear Miss Peterkin
Thank you for your email regarding an item of mail we delivered which was damaged. May I firstly apologise for any inconvenience you have been caused.
Our priority is to provide a good-quality service and we aim to handle all mail very carefully to make sure it is delivered safely and on time. Every item of mail is important to us, but problems do arise.
I cannot say where or when the item became damaged. Mechanical handling and the weight of other mail can sometimes cause damage, but we do everything possible to reduce the amount of mail that arrives in a poor condition.
Could I respectfully recommend that you fill in a loss/damage form and send it in to Royal Mail with certificate of posting and any proof of value.
We look forward to receiving the form and the information will be used by our quality and security sections." Firstly, the item did not arrive in poor condition, the envelope did, there were no items in there.
And yes, the weight of another parcel took off the sellotape, opened the envelope and removed the contents. Of course, how did i not see this before. Or, maybe a robot did it!

luckily nothing like this has happened to me! I've had a few complaints by the postal workers about my "poorly placed or illegible postcode markings" and a dyslexic postie who kept posting a letter labelled Furveaux street to our Scrivener st...even though scrivener loooks NOTHING like Furveaux! But I've never had missing or damaged post!
