It's taken them nearly 4 weeks to come up with this: "Dear Miss Peterkin
Thank you for your email regarding an item of mail we delivered which was damaged. May I firstly apologise for any inconvenience you have been caused.
Our priority is to provide a good-quality service and we aim to handle all mail very carefully to make sure it is delivered safely and on time. Every item of mail is important to us, but problems do arise.
I cannot say where or when the item became damaged. Mechanical handling and the weight of other mail can sometimes cause damage, but we do everything possible to reduce the amount of mail that arrives in a poor condition.
Could I respectfully recommend that you fill in a loss/damage form and send it in to Royal Mail with certificate of posting and any proof of value.
We look forward to receiving the form and the information will be used by our quality and security sections."Firstly, the item did not arrive in poor condition, the envelope did, there were no items in there. And yes, the weight of another parcel took off the sellotape, opened the envelope and removed the contents. Of course, how did i not see this before. Or, maybe a robot did it! Stace... they've replied to me with this: Dear Miss Yates,
Thank you for your e-mail regarding an Inland item of mail which has arrived with some or all the contents missing. May I firstly apologise for any inconvenience you have been caused as a result of the loss.
Unfortunately, we are not able to process claims by email for part loss, this is due to the specialised investigation required.
Please submit a P58 Inland, Damaged or Delayed form. These are available from any Post Office or to download on the Royal Mail website.
Please ensure you enclose your Certificate of Posting and any relevant documentation relating to your claim. You may wish to keep a photocopy of everything for your own records. Please ask your recipient to keep the packaging as we may need to as evidence.
I am sorry that my reply cannot be more favourable. However, if you require any further advice about the services we provide, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Regards

Chlo you got a reply from a different person to me. At least yours knew that stuff was missing.
We don't have certificate of posting so no point filling out a claims form.

We don't have certificate of posting so no point filling out a claims form. they obviously don't bother reading emails (or they would know i don't have proff of posting 'cos it jsut went in normal work post. oh and "Unfortunately, we are not able to process claims by email for part loss, this is due to the specialised investigation required." - PART loss - i think you mean TOTAL loss. i'll go download that form anyway, and have a look. oh still no response from leeds met btw, other than a "sorry you weren't 100% happy with our service, i've passed your email onto such&such, they'll be in contact" yeah right.

Yeah i put in that we had no certificate too. When some work post wasn't delivered we had to fill in one of those forms but they wouldn't process it unless it has a certificate of postage.
I'm going to email them back and let them know that i'm not happy with their service at all, including customer service. All i want is for them to take responsibility and apologise, not to blame it on other heavy post.

Bump. Our beloved Royal Mail is having a postal strike tomorrow, although you could argue that nobody will notice ''cos their service is so rubbish anyway...

Pfft, when they provide a better service then i might support them wanting a pay rise. Until then they can sod off.
I emailed them back with my thoughts regarding their service...they've clearly decided to file that in the bin.
And i'm sick of having to pick up rubber bands that the postman throws around the street. It's not just our postman either, the ones near mum's and a colleague of mine do it as well. How hard is it to put them in your pocket?

Yes, our postman used to drop a lot rubber bands too - it seems to have stopped over the past few months, a lot of them still do it though. Has no-one told them that littering is illegal?

*adds to royal mail/postman rant* leaving a parcel thats too big for a letterbox outside behind a flower pot.... in the rain..... during the time of year when people are on holiday so it sits outside in the wet for an entire week oh and its an hmv package that the customs sticker on makes clear is dvd or similar.... fucks sake. even though the postie had the slight sense to put it in a plastic wallet thing, water has still soaked through into the cardboard and made it very soggy. thank god the dvd itself was doubley wrapped in plastic and is dry. if he HAS to wedge it behind a pot and leave it instead of taking it back to the depot for someone to collect... could he not wedge it behind a pot thats under the porch so it doesn't get rained on? twat.

defo complain about that ... I waited in for the Postie after he bent a 12" record I'd bought on ebay through my 8" wide letterbox. He gave me the money that I'd paid for it, as he felt so bad!

I hereby agree with you that Royal Mail is crapisto. In Australia it takes about a week to send something to Canada, Norway and, I assume, Britain. James sent me POPY in May. I think it came in June/July (I was away so I don't know the exact dates.) I pity you all....

Chloe....in theory, shouldn't the silly postman have knocked on your next door neighbour and given it to them? Thats what happens here when no one is in the house.

They don't do that here. Couriers do, postmen don't. They take it back to the sorting office place...but don't bother to put a slip through the door to tell you this.

I looked at the box. It was actually posted in APRIL... BLF paid only a little more than 1 pound for postage so maybe it wasn't air mail. I paid $10 (3.85 pounds) and filled out a customs declaration so I think mine is air mail - I think what BLF did was he got the box then just posted it in a regular postbox, which might account for the delay.

sounds like Surface Mail to me ... the target time for that is at least 60 days!

How horrible! 60 days in Britain, or 60 days outside it?

well, think about it ... the post via surface mail, by definition, stays on the surface of the planet ... so, it's got to go via car or boat to get from the UK to Australia ... so it's the whole journey.
