On the other hand: * support slots are tough (it's someone else's crowd) * Feeder's last 3 albums all made the top 10
I agree that Grant's voice is not what it was. I think it's a shame that instead of reimagining songs, they just detune the guitars into mush and Grant does his best.

Yeah to be honest, in all the gigs I've been to over the past 15/16 years or so, I don't think I've ever seen a particularly strong crowd reaction/atmosphere for a support act. 99% of the audience have bought tickets solely for the headline act and think the sooner the support get out of the way, the better. I don't think it's fair to compare them.
Grant's 54 now. All singers lose range as they age and all bands eventually end up playing in lower keys.
His vocals were always trickier in the first place to be fair, but the lead singer of The Offspring struggles so much these days they often resort to pre-recorded backing tracks to mask it!

Lady Gaga was at the Spurs stadium this weekend. She could teach Grant a thing or two about putting together a set.
First 3 songs were "Bad Romance", "Just Dance" and "Poker Face", which would be like Feeder opening with "Buck Rogers", "Seven Days in the Sun" and "Just a Day" in a row.
Then she goes on to play a forward-looking set, with the finale and encore drawn entirely from her new album.
It can be done.
