Album is brilliant on first listen!
Finding it kinda funny that they've released a video today (featuring footage from the tour) for Sahara, a song that was never performed. 😂

I'm enjoying it. Favourite track so far is "Scream". I like "Memory Loss" too.
Has anyone noticed that the guitar riff on "Sleeping Dogs Lie" (go to 0:21) is "Chicken on a Bone" slowed down?!

I'll be listening tomorrow, when hopefully my bundle arrives! I refuse to listen to it via another source until then. Although that statement is a bit of a cop-out as I have listened to the samples twice 😄 And of course I've heard the singles.
Can't wait. What I've heard sounds great.

I've forgotten the name of my favourite track...oh it was Memory Loss!
Sounds like a solid double album on first listen.
There were 5 new albums out today I wanted to listen to, which must be a new record (no pun intended).

I have listened to the album several times, apart from the many times I listened to the singles released previously on YouTube.
- The only song that actually impressed me is Submarine, which has that good soft-hard rock special combo of some songs of their prime era (Stereo World, Crash, Day In Day Out, Standing On The Edge, Cement, etc...). All-time Feeder classic potential.
- The Knock is also a nice surprise with its guitar "solo" melody and energetic rythm. It could fit as an anime opening song.
- If only Hey You had had a stronger chorus this could have been another great hit along with Submarine.
- Ghosts On Parade is a nice album ending song. Uplifting last song that shows us Feeder is not done yet. Interesting new tunes in a Silent Cry-esque song.
The rest are just ok. Not bad at all, but not impressive neither. I'm glad almost each song has some new bits that show Feeder are trying to get outside of their confort zone. Traditional Feeder properly mixed with innovation and experimentation is what they need to lengthen their musical career IMO.
- Honorable mention to Droids. They played the song in the tour and nobody noticed it, thinking it was just some improvised performance intro. Master trolling by Feeder.
I'm glad Feeder fire is still burning bright. I have read Grant is already working on a new album. Each new release from them is a blessing!

For Sleeping Dogs Lie, the riff sounds closer to Home from the Renegades album to me, I hear it throughout the song. Or that may just be me. As for the album, as per usual I won't get my copy for another 3 weeks as that is usually how much time it takes them to ship it to Canada. For the meantime I have been streaming it off Feeder's YouTube Channel. I am a bit disappointed in it. While there are no tracks that are bad enough to skip, for me there really aren't any stand out tracks that new must loves, like I have had on the past few albums. Overall a few 9/10 songs, lots of 8/10s and a few 7/10 songs for me. Solid listen, and nothing bad on it, but just no new favourite song I guess. For those wanting a YouTube playlist of the album using Feeder's YouTube Channel Feeder - Black Red album YouTube playlistAlso for anybody interested I have updated my Feeder/Grant Complete Discography playlist which now has over 300 songs from Feeder to Grant's solo stuff, collabs, Raindancer, Real, and Multi-Story tracks, pretty much should have at least 1 version of every song on YouTube, which I have ordered to my liking => Feeder/Grant - Complete Discography playlist for anybody who just wants to listen to Feeder non-stop all day without any repeats, it is a good list. Nobody will like the songs in the same order as me, but it is my list and that is how I like them. Oh by the way for me Droids is now as a standalone track the worst Feeder song of all time, mostly due to it just being ambient noise on it's own. I have Space on it's own too so, just the way I have things. Anyways I move things up and down as I listen more and change things up sometimes as my mood on a song changes, so it is never final. Maybe after a few more listens things will improve. Overall good album, just not great for me.

I have to say I was disappointed by the CD package, given Grant's speeches on the tour about the importance of albums as physicals thing with artwork, etc. And the amount of thought they'd put into getting every little detail right.
Given all that, I opened the box and it was like... is that it? Just one page of teeny tiny type, no booklet, a perfunctory track listing on the back, then 2 images placed behind the CDs.
And then there's the poor attention to detail. There's a typo on the sleeve notes ("thanks to friends and vfamily") and, while the track listing refers to CD 1: tracks 1 to 9; and CD 2: tracks 1 to 9, the personnel credits refer to tracks 1 to 18. Just little things a proof reader should have picked up.

Just little things a proof reader should have picked up. Eurgh this annoys the bejeezus out of me too - it's really lazy and unprofessional. Seems to be becoming a typical thing with a Feeder release, what with the typos on the ABE release and the similarly bare-bones Torpedo packaging. But the worst offender was the Renegades and Generation Freakshow re-releases five or six years ago - who put those together? The image source used for the photos was terrible, low resolution sample garbage that seemingly anyone just picked up from the web. You hold it side by side with the original release and the difference is shocking. You wonder who is putting these together considering they're sold as premo products through their official store. Anyway, still waiting for the postman for my bundle..... won't be long hopefully!

The worst offender was the Renegades and Generation Freakshow re-releases five or six years ago - who put those together? I'm with you. I bought the vinyl bundle and could not believe how cheaply it was done. Never again. Also, why can't you buy a digital copy of Black/Red from Feeder's own store?! And relatedly, for music you can download, why are the options so limited? For maybe a decade, Bandcamp and others have given many, many options – various mp3, flac, AAC, ogg vorbis, alac, wave, AIFF, etc. I wonder whether Grant is actively trying to save money or just doesn't know what's available these days... the music equivalent of buying Capita.

Now that my package has arrived, I actually take back most of what I said - the only thing I can spot that's disappointing is the typo you pointed out. Otherwise I'm impressed with both the CD and vinyl production. It's pretty rare these days that you get any plastic jewel case to give the CD some sturdiness, but this release does. And of course I'm no audiophile, but as far as I can tell the album has been engineered, mixed and mastered very well. Rock bands seem to be the worst offenders in the loudness war that's been prevalent for the past decade or two, but generally things are improving these days in that regard. It does baffle me about the lack of digital options though. When Torpedo was released they pushed a cheap double dip digital deluxe purchase option on day one for existing buyers as to help their chart position, but seemingly not this time.

So now that I've mostly gotten used to the tracks I feel I can comment on favourites!
I honestly think this time my faves are the songs they've already released as singles, which does include Sahara (it has a video, although I'm not sure it's officially a single). That and Perfume which I think is pretty cool. I like the chaotic dark energy of Playing with Fire, and Hey You is a beautiful Feeder anthem to go with the others - I feel if any Black / Red track is going to stay in the Feeder set for years to come, it's that one. The Knock is great fun to sing in the chorus.
It's really great having 18 tracks from an album, and really quite quickly after Torpedo. Grant has been extremely busy since coming back from 'hiatus' (if you can call it that) in 2016. The songs certainly are heavy and have a great energy, which is something that perhaps if you'd asked me in 2012 if they'd still be making more than a decade later, I may have disagreed. For that I'm glad (although I'd personally find a quiet, introspective Feeder album really interesting!) Ultimately I think I prefer Torpedo, which in terms of sound is very comparable, I just think that was a more concise, focused affair. I do have to just keep reminding myself that it's so great having this much Feeder content in less than ten years though!

For those wondering about charts. Black/Red is currently sitting at 4th with 5698 in sales. So will probably be lower top 10 once the week is over hopefully, but odds are it will drop out of the top 5. Libertines look like they will be number 1. Albums (Top 100) 1 The Libertines - All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade (17,116) [15,768 physicals, 844 downloads, 504 streaming] * 2 The K's - I Wonder If The World Knows? (8,278) * 3 Conan Gray - Found Heaven (5,793) * 4 Feeder - Black / Red (5,698) * 5 Beyoncé - Cowboy Carter (5,624) Source: www.ukmix.org/forum/chart-discussion/chart-analysis/11376371-uk-charts-midweek-thread-2024/page8

For context on Monday the last couple of albums were at: Torpedo - #3 (4,676) [ended week at #5 on 6,055] Tallulah - #3 (~5,700) [ended week at #4 on 7,457] By that reckoning, it will hopefully do around the same figure as Tallulah! I'd put money on it missing Top 5 though, as there are a couple of existing albums that I could easily see overtaking, last week's Top 10 below, for reference... ** 01 39,990 Beyoncé - COWBOY CARTER ** 02 9,246 Olivia Rodrigo - GUTS ** 03 8,973 The Weeknd - The Highlights ** ** 04 8,785 Ariana Grande - eternal sunshine ** 05 6,890 Noah Kahan - Stick Season 06 6,395 Future & Metro Boomin - WE DON'T TRUST YOU 07 5,887 Fleetwood Mac - 50 Years: Don't Stop 08 5,387 Ride - Interplay 09 5,281 Elton John - Diamonds 10 5,144 Taylor Swift - 1989 (Taylor's Version) Beyonce and The Weeknd will almost certainly overtake. No idea how well Conan Grey will holda. Ariana was out a few weeks back, could drop 1k, but I don't see it. I'm calling #7 - 6 if they're lucky... 5 if they're VERY lucky! Should make Top 10 though, which is still great for them! (All my figures from buzzjack.com)

On another note, gutted I'm only just realising there's a gorgeous chequerboard vinyl that completely sold out! (Only found out about it from a pic on Feeder's Facebook which has all the variants in it)
Was it promoted anywhere other than blood records? Because my periodic googling to find other versions didn't come across that one once!

1 The Libertines - All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade (17,116) [15,768 physicals, 844 downloads, 504 streaming] That's wild that the number 1 album only had 844 download purchases. Wow.

I suspect it's the actual number 1 download album too. Beyond week one, most albums get the majority of their sales from streaming, which leads to sales reliant albums (usually by 'legacy' artists) tumbling out of the chart in week 2. Both Tallulah and Torpedo managed just 1 week in the Top 100 (as have a fair few #1 albums now!).

Seems like Feeder have added a digital download of the album, with a discount code(I got one e-mailed to me, perhaps to those who already own the physical version). Seems like you get all tracks + instrumental versions + a few special version of certain tracks. I have a feeling they are doing it to boost their sales numbers. Since I don't receive my physical for another few weeks and to help the band, I decided to purchase it.
Do we know since this is a double album, whether rules state that each copy bought counts for 2 sales instead of 1, or are the rules not like that in the UK? I know in some jurisdictions it works that way or worked that way?
I have a feeling they kept the digital download separate this time so it could count as more than 1 purchase, if they bundled them would it have only counted once? Does anybody know/.

The 'deluxe' album sounds fun, but the timing feels a bit cynical. On the silly side, it gives us a fourth spelling of one of the songs. So it's: 🤷♂️

In the UK each sale of the album (in whatever format) counts as 1 sales for each copy sold -digital or physical. The fact it is a double album makes no different (1 sale of the double album is one sale, they can't be purchased individually!) As for bundles, however many copies of the album are in the bundle will count. So if you buy a bundle that contains 2 vinyl double albums, 2 cassettes, a CD and a download, that would be 6 sales!
