Just played it for an hour... first impressions.... Awesome. I can now see why it got the reviews it has! 1 small thing that bugs me is that the cars still drive like they used to, nothing different there, their turning is a little too sensitive for me. They still pitch at 45 degree angles when turning too. I've not done any people watching yet... that'll come tonight. Right now I have to go to work.

I thought the viewpoint when you're drinving a car is placed a little bit too loose and low. But I'll probably get used to it. But the game itself is so full of details and stuff to do - it's amazing. You almost don't know where to start exploring

Right GTA..
*First Impressions*
The Graphics are amazing. The Attention to detail is amazing.
A few things are bugging me tho, the Hand to Hand combat seems really akward, hopefully i'll get used to it. Also the Camera angle on the driving seems to close in, I know you can Zoom out but it's just a pain to keep doing it every time you get in the car.
Looking forward to really getting into it.

They still pitch at 45 degree angles when turning too. It ain't LFS Seriously though, I actually find the cars very different to previous GTA games. Much more of a sense of weight to them now, makes it harder to go/stop/corner. Not as much of a sense of speed either, unless you've got a clear road, and then as soon as you get to a corner you can't just handbrake it around like you used to be able to do. And it's impossible to turn on the brakes, they just understeer. On the plus side, the cars don't blow up half as easily as they did before, even when the police are shooting you with shotguns...

I've got a PSP but I rarely use it... I last bought MGS: Portable Ops, but found the control system to be nigh on impossible without 2 analogue sticks Rach likes playing Theme Hospital on it though, and the PS3 compatability is pretty nifty, constantly expanding it as well (Looking forward to the TV tuner in the summer)

League racing last night went pretty well, a 5th and a 3rd - quite a lucky third as the guy who was ahead of me blew his engine up on the last lap with 2 corners to go.

Well, it's just as I expected.
From the information I can glean from the demo, the new Codemasters motorsport game Race Driver GRID... is rubbish. Like the McRae game it's nasty and americanised now, but the worst thing is the gameplay. The handling is crap - there's as little sensation of grip from the ETCC BMW 320i as there was in DIRT from the sand buggy things. It doesn't appear to matter whether you use the racing line or not because the cars dart about so much like there's no inertia to them, and even the damage model is rubbish compared to something like GTA4. Then there's the interior view, which most racing games fans use, and you appear to be sitting with your head almost touching the ceiling of the car. In a real race car, you look just over the line of the top of the steering wheel, not sitting on a highchair likea toddler.
So yes, Codemasters seem to have messed up both main motorsport franchises. Nice one.
And you ask how I can get so much from a demo - well, I've played demos of all previous Colin McRae and TOCA/Race Driver games, and i've been tempted to buy each one. Not with these ones.

Heh, just wait... They've got the rights to the F1 series now too...

That should be fun, judging by McRae and Race Driver the F1 series will become effectively a minigame, and you'll be able to race NASCAR, lawnmowers, spaceships and snails. Gah.

Sony had the license and refused to pay the massively inflated price asked for by Ecclestone, so Codemasters snapped it up...
Not been a massive fan of F1 games, or racing games outside Burnout/GT in all honesty, but it'll be interesting to see what CM do...

I like most racing games, even really arcadey ones like Ridge Racer, because they can still be entertaining for what they are, but the GT series has always been my favourite. I used to like the CMR and TOCA series but I'm really disappointed by the new ones, especially given how good they could have made them on the PS3 and 360 hardware. I don't buy F1 games that much, but the current one is supposed to be pretty good. Still having great fun with GTA4 though, hooray for damage modelling... (And yes I do have a crap standard def TV...)

I think, with the exception of GT5P/GT5 and Forza, that companies are taking their time with this gen of racers... They're getting to grips with everything with the hardware and the *next* edition of games will be (hopefully) technically brilliant. GTA is surprisingly brilliant when it comes to damage modelling I was in a Patriot that just wouldn't break for love nor money for ages (lampposts, other cars, people, nothing could dint it), then on one of the bridges, some guy cut across the lanes randomly and sent me flying over the side of it, nose first onto the pavement... I was thrown right through the windscreen, the car ended up on its roof, bounced into a petrol station which then blew up... Brilliant.

i've t-boned a small car once when i was in a truck... the entire rear quater of the car was pretty narrow after I hit it... Looked exactly like my dad's Toyota Avensis did when a similar thing happened.

The level of detail in GTA is amazing, even if the graphics aren't technically the best on the console(s), they've thought about everything, whether you're driving or on foot. I've done the landing nose first thing too Apparently there's actually some in-game bonus if you can make the car do five barrel rolls. So I might try that...

I love being a beta tester for one of the major race sim companies... I know exactly what's coming, and it's bloody awesome!
