I don't understand why people choose to do something that induces cancer...and pay to do it.

Well I don't blow smoke in people's faces because thats just bad manners.
Lots of things induce cancer, but if I chose to smoke like a chimney and got cancer I wouldn't expect anyone to foot the bill, this is based on a theory by Ronald Dworkin in his book Sovereign Virtue (dai - ask your sister) basically it sets out what the ideal health system would be like, it would be based on an insurance system, if I smoked and got ill thats called option luck, I made a decision and crapped out, I deserve nothing, the system would cover brute luck - which is things you can't control like being knocked down by car.
I wouldn't treat smokers on the state, like I wouldn't treat fat people who get heart disease or couples who want IVF babies and thats because i'm a bitch who has read too much Dworkin (cause he kicks Rawls' ass)
And Dai it it makes you feel any better on the two occasions I've been offered a line, I've always turned it down.

Good thing, turning them down. I can't see why anyone would want to do anything that hard. If people wanna smoke then they can smoke, but don't kill me while doing it. Oh and the worst thing ever is finding out someone close to you is smoking behind your back, even though they said they don't smoke. I was so pissed off at my best mate about it.

Out of curiousity, why wouldn't you treat couples for IVF on the NHS? oh shit i hope i have offended you by that Nah its such a bloody waste of the tax payers money, there are plenty of kids out there who are unwanted and i think its just goddamn selfish to want your own because its your own, so its biologically the same, it could still turn out to be a little shit. Yeah some times its bad luck that you can't conceive and its not your fault but I really can't see why I should pay for someone to have "treatment" with in the majority of cases doesn't work or ends up in premature multiple births which in themselves are a fantastic thing. Yeah go ahead and pay for it yourself, I have no problem with that but when I see an NHS under so much strain, I really don't think it can be justified, you just need to look at the state of the mental health wing of the NHS to see its really underfunded. And on a cost-effectiveness basis it doesn't work either. Yeah I know someone will say "but what if you can't have kids Vicki?" to which I would say I'd get over it and adopt a child or if all else fails buy a kitten.

You hope you HAVE offended me by that?!! Mmm..there's arguements for both sides there. But you can't get away from a woman's most basic desire when she eventually gets it. "if all else fails buy a kitten"?? Shouldn't that be "adopt an unwanted cat from your local animal shelter"?!! I'm on my 3rd.

I don't understand why people choose to do something that induces cancer...and pay to do it. There are many other things containing carcinogens aside from cigarettes. Phones, microwaves, junk food, pollution... you pay to do those. Smoking is bad, it wastes money, smells and makes you die Hey gotta die of something!

I often think about how i'm going to die, I don't think it will be smoking, the boyfriendish agrees that I will probably die in an accident.

Made my day when those freebie-handie-outie-people came by with the lighters. Mine was on the verge of packing up. I grabbed 5. They're still in the kitchen drawer ;D P.S. Yes - smoking is VERY bad, children.

No, not as a rule!! These lighters were a promo gimmick from some ringtone company. They just had "Feeder - Feeling A Moment - get the ringtone on this number" sort of thing on them. They were just promo stuff nothin to do with Feeder at all.
