i hate the claim process with lost postal orders, it takes forever and they only pay you the face value so you end up having to lose money with their stupid postal order costs!!

is there some kind of london post strike going on that no-ones told us about..? 2 days running no post for us or downstairs,... that's well unusual.

They don't do that here. Couriers do, postmen don't. They take it back to the sorting office place...but don't bother to put a slip through the door to tell you this. I always have slips by the post man if nobody's in, but what I don't like is when a friend send you a gift and it happens to gets lost in the post. is there some kind of london post strike going on that no-ones told us about..? 2 days running no post for us or downstairs,... that's well unusual. Not lately, but I have had times were it's been almost a week and no letters have come through the post.

It's Royal Mail 10 days to get a little jiffy bag of things from Fareham to London. They're getting slower!

Worst cases I ever had were gig tickets that I sent recorded or whatever delivery after selling on eBay. Got lost in the post, and of course Royal Mail don't do insurance for tickets - we learned this AFTER sending it, and AFTER the woman at the post office assured us it was insured for £100, what I paid for the tickets. So, had to refund the buyer, got nothing out of Royal Mail, only for the tickets to be 'returned to sender' a week after the gig. Me, £100 out of pocket and Royal Mail probably laughing.
They've also taken three weeks to send a letter from one side of Peterborough to the other. THREE WEEKS. I can actually walk from one side of Peterborough to the other in about two hours or so, maybe a little more. The only reason I sent it was because I was off on holiday and didn't have time to drop it in personally. It was recorded delivery, 'garunteed next day delivery.'
Oh. Dear.

You do need to be a little careful here ... "recorded delivery" just means that someone has to sign for it on delivery and you can check online that it has been delivered.
Special Delivery (either Next Day or by 9am) means you can track the parcel at all stages and see an image of the signature obtained on delivery. If the delivery is later than the guaranteed time then you can claim the cost of the postage back again. For the letter, did you do that ?
I wasn't aware that they didn't cover tickets ... seems strange to me ...

Ah yes, the Peterborough letter was special delivery. As for the tickets, I think that was recorded delivery. We were explicitly told after they lost the tickets that they don't cover event tickets at all. They may have meant that they dont cover them when sent standard/recorded/special, i don't know... but since then I have never used RM for tickets, opting for either pickup or couriers.
