Pear Tatin With Star Anise - with Pimms caramel instead of Rum precooking: served with opimms Caramel and ice-cream it was scrummy! but be warned, first time you make it takes a while, 'cos you're faffing about working out how to make caramel.... we got through the whole of slent cry!

I usually make me own pastry - if I'm doing anything shortcrusty. If I'm doing anything with puff or filo I use pre-bought.
As for the chocolate chili cake - yes, it's plain flour. Silly people didn't specify! Except I worked it out cause there was bicarb and baking powder in the recipe so why would they not use plain?
I am a recipe shortcutter...normally with cakes I don't ever use an electric mixer cause it's too much fuss, I just beat really well by hand. I didn't use an electric mixer with this one. Tip - if you only have real butter as opposed to marge, and you didn't leave it out of the fridge to soften, 10-30 secs in the microwave will do it.

Crummy Biccy Cakeeasiest cake in the world to make - fact! 1 packet of digestive biscuits 2 tablespoons golden syrup 2 tablespoons butter/marge 2 tablespoons sugar 1 large teaspoon cocoa powder slab of chocolate - bash up digestive biscuits - can use pestle and mortar or just stick them in a bag (with no holes) and use a rolling pin...
- put golden syrup, butter, sugar & cocoa in a pan over low heat, stir til melted.
- pour melted mixture into biscuits, mix together til all coated. if wanted can add "extras" like glace cherries, mini marshmallows, raisens etc, me and stace tend to put small peices of stem ginger in. chuck them in and mix well.
- pour mixture into well greased deepish tin - press down well. put in fridge until set -couple hours should do it.
- melt chocolate, pour on top, put back into fridge til set. cut into pieces.
