i like oasis. i watched them on tv last night playing live and it was really good.
oh and i never read music reviews anymore. ever. it's about what you like so i don't need to hear someone slagging off a song that i like because i hear the song in a slightly negative light the next time i hear it. i remember reading a single review for JTWIF and the reviewer gave it 8/10. well fair enough but i honestly can't think how that song could have been improved so 10/10 for me.

I tend to ignore all reviews/charts or anything of the sort, and I don't listen to the radio. This means I have a pretty obscure music taste of things I've just stumbled across and usually don't have a clue about all these popular bands people are talking about!
Nothing beats expanding your music taste than an XDCC packet list, and closing your eyes and clicking.
As for overrated pop... where have the likes of Jamie T and Plan B gone? Maybe slightly hyped by the NME but they were a bit different and havenae heard anything from them in a while.

MUSIC IS INATE. LIKE SEXUALITY. I DIDN'T CHOOSE TO LIKE COLDPLAY. IS THIS LIKE COMING OUT OF THE CLOSET?!

Alex James from Blur says "Coldplay are ordinary". Oh, the irony.

I read a few reviews on Pitchfork Media today. The Coldplay one in particular was pretty subtle, yet scathing.
I came to a few conclusions. One, Pitchfork media is written by the type of elitist pricks who cant like anything unless they're the first to hear of it, then they can do the whole "we were here when they were underground, man" thing.
Two, it seems to me that many critics these days have taken to being harsh or extremely critical. I know the job of a critic is to state (what is beleived to be) an informed opinion, and this is exactly why I ignore critics. To present these findings as fact bugs the hell out of me, and the worst thing a critic can do is be condescending to their audience. "If you like [band] you're a fool". BULLSHIT. I read a few reviews for Viva la Vida out of boredom, and not one of them was positive. Personally I love the album, so again - lucky I ignore critics, but if Critics are supposed to be read up, or representative, then how the hell do the bands they profess to loathe do so well?!
People are like, "the public are idiots." Yes, the cynic in me agrees... but perhaps its the rest of us that are idiots for writing off and belittling something which gives other people happiness!
man I dont know where that was going or if I even got there. I just felt like a rant.
A question to you: How far do you trust critics opinion? Has a critic ever put you off trying something?
My answer is easy. I have never (knowingly) instantly dismissed a band or film because a critic said it was shit, unless it's a friend/family who knows me, really. Even then I usually try it out for myself. After all if it's caused enough fuss for somebody to warn me off, I want to see what it's about. However if a critic raves about something then I'll usually try it, because I beleive that there's probably a fan out there for everything, and it'd be a shame if that one fan was turned off by a bad review.

I just don't think music critics should even exist. They get paid to state their opinion on a song? Well everyone has different taste in music so why bother... they seem too analytical and serious that it seems they forgot how to enjoy a song. And 'cos they're from big, respected names it feels as though they're forcing their opinion on you... like the 'we thought this song was shit, therefore it is shit' kinda thing.
Someone tell me am I talking a load of rubbish? It is late and I am tired...

I like Oasis, they're not that bad, but they're not that good either.
As far as Jonas Bro are concerned... Pfffft, they suck.
I hate all those poppy bands around, Tokyo Hotel for example are amongst the worst ever bands to appear on earth, if not the worst at all!!
anyway I don't know if I can really say anything about it, cause most of my friends say that Feeder have become a pop band like many around... Well SC may be a commercial record, but at least they have the capacity to write the songs on their own, and they play live amazingly. So it is undeniable that they are talented and also one of those few bands that are still releasing good music nowadays

I just heard 'The Saturdays' Where the hell did they come from? Utter tosh! Simon Cowell's "new Spice Girls" allegedly. I also saw a shameless plug for them in Hollyoaks (which they were in). I agree, horrible processed shit.

Ok oasis are my all time fave band and I get really pissed off with people saying all their songs sound the same 'cos they really dont! and the new album is COMPLETELY different from anything theyve done before. Oasis saved british rock in the mid 90s, fact. Def maybe was so good it inspired loads of british bands to get their act together and make great music and then we had an era of britpop. Anyway these 10 songs all sound COMPLETELY different from eachother: Rock n roll star Live forever champagne supernova Morning glory Fade in out Gas panic Who feels love fuckin in the bushes falling down to be where there's life

I'm really not an Oasis fan at all, simply because I can't stand the Gallaghers' voices, but their songs are varied and pretty good If the voices were a little bit less annoying they'd be in my top 5 bands easily. On another note, I love the Kaiser Chiefs and Franz Ferdinand - I think they're both brilliant, not because someone told me to like them, but because I do. If I liked what people told me to, would I like Feeder? No, I'd like anything found in NMEthat wasn't given less than a 7, most of which is complete and utter drivel. And don't even get me started on the ****ing Jonas Brothers!!! ARGH!!! Think that's it
