I hate Kaiser Chiefs, gotta be honest and say I'm happy their popularity appears to be dwindling massively . Oasis are awesome, more so in the past yes, but their last album was still really good in places, mostly the Noel parts. Whats The Story Morning Glory? is still the best album ever, and Champagne Supernova the best song. In my opinion .

Being forced to listen to the Radio for a minimum of 4 hours a day, I am SO annoyed with the state of the music industry right now. The stuff that charts is just absolute shit. That's not just be being an opinion nazi, it's all just so shallow with one goal- to get stuck in your head. Then people seem to think that having a song stuck in your head must make it good, so go out and buy it. This is the ONLY reason I can think of why people would buy that Black Eyed Peas song "I've got a feeling", that Supernova song, or that horrible Chicane cover of Sigur Ros. Which leads me nicely onto my other point, almost EVERY OTHER SONG is either a cover version, has parts/riffs taken from another song or is just a sneaky rip off of another. Terrible.

I'm with you on that - most of the charts are complete shit, I even checked the last week - I liked 3 of the songs in the top 40 (even though I wouldn't go out and buy any of them), and all of them were charted at 25 or lower! It's official - Simon Cowell is the Devil personified. Even look at the X Factor - some of his comments!! I remember someone auditioning and singing an 80's song, but it was absolutely brilliant. Cowell came in with 'can you sing something that makes you sound modern?'. I'm sorry, but good music should be timeless, not something that's gonna be popular for 2 weeks and then everyone will forget who sung it after then. Music is NOT about money - it's about making brilliant music. The bastard Cowell is only interested in music as a money making venture. He must be stopped at all costs. Think I'm done now

Music is NOT about money - it's about making brilliant music. I do [you] SO[/you] agree with you. Yeah 99% of the charts is absolute shit, I once watched Top of the Pops when I was into some kind of poppier music (Avril Lavigne for example) back in '02 and '03, and I used to like at most 3 or 4 songs in the top 40. AT MOST. Now that I'm into ROCK I like nothing that it's in the charts. Maybe just when some big great bands like Muse, Metallica or Iron Maiden realease some new singles. Maybe nowadays I'm more into metal than into rock, so I tend to dislike poppy songs even more than I did before - I mean, Feeder are the poppiest band I listen to and they are not that poppy. They just write great melodies and that's all. I have a firiend who only listens to metal and he recently admitted liking some Feeder songs like FAM, CIS and especially Swim which is his favourite. And he only heard 30-40 songs from their albums, he still misses all the b-sides and many other excellent album tracks. He also said that in his opinion Feeder are one of the most talented bands around (He said "they can play instruments very well and write amazing lyrics"), which is something he says in rare occasions. Feeder are an amazing band and they should really deserve far more recognition. As you say, music is about writing brilliant music and not making money, and I think Feeder perfectly apply to this principle. Of course making money is part of the job and wanting to get some recognition for what you're doing is a normal thing in music. There are some guys I know that have set up a band in recent times. I don't like their songs but I can see the passion they share for what they're doing, and there's nothing better than watching them rocking out in their small garage. I think the music industry should start from there to look for good music. For me good music is not necessairly what I like, but is every kind of music played with passion, and most of those guys in the top 40 do it for money. Do you remember about Gwen Stefani? Did you ever heard of her again after she did that awful song "hollaback girl" or something? I didn't. That's the same thing that will happen with Lady Ga Ga (and that stupid song, "Pokerface"). She will probably make a couple more songs and no one will ever heard of her again, and that's because she's already made enough money with just one song. The true musicians keep on going as long as they want to write music. Take Iron Maiden: 14 albums, they have been 33 years together and they're not planning on giving up yet. And they're 60 years old! This shows they're really enjoying their job. They could have well given up in 1988, they were already famous and had sold millions of records. But they didn't. Their songs, even the oldest ones, will live forever, while all the crappy stuff I mentioned will be forgotten within a year. Ok now I'm done, sorry for the length, but I have always a lot to write about these subjects

Sorry but the whole music is not about money thing....
sure, most artists get in to it for the creative outlet, but i'd be fucked if i'd put that much effort in to crafting an album, no matter who likes or dislikes it or my original intentions, and not get fuck all out of it except appreciation. people gotta eats, yo.
but yeh, strictly for profit bands... fail.

Agreed - money should just be a bonus from writing great music, not music only being written to make money

Agreed - money should just be a bonus from writing great music, not music only being written to make money There's no objective way of quantifying "great music" though is there? I mean, you're not about to say "chart success" 'cause this thread was created exactly out of distaste for those bands who do well in the charts who we can't stand! How do you decide that Feeder get so much for this or that song, but Girls Aloud, who outsell Feeder, get this much for that peice of shite?

Well here are some songs which I think everybody in this thread can relate to:
Check out the following on YouTube from Jon Lajoie: Pop Song, Radio Friendly Song and Alone In The Universe...
he gets no radio play obviously, lol probably due to content like in songs like High As Fuck, Show Me Your Genitals, and Too Fast and being critical of the music industry/media. Michael Jackson Is Dead is so true....

Can the Kaiser Chiefs really be described as a pop rock band?
Also, anyone else here who thinks Nickelback should have stuck to rock/hardrock/grunge? *hides behind his bulletproof sofa*
