So ... I've had a Barclays account since Uni days ... in recent times, I've used this account purely for handling money associated to the cricket team I play for (Match Fees and the like).
Therefore, it's only used for 6 months of the year and the bank card is used even less ... transactions are handled via cheque or online banking.
NB : to log in to online banking, you need the card and your PIN
Today, I try to log in to the online banking, to check the balance, since I need to do some transactions with the club. I try to log in using the PINSentry card read and it tells me my PIN is wrong, 3 times and gets me to call the bank.
It actually transpires that Barclays have cancelled my card because it wasn't being used! This, apparently, was for my own protection !!
Now, I can understand why they've done it ... but why the hell didn't they write, e-mail or phone me to tell me this was going to happen?! What if I was using this account to save up money for absolute emergencies or Christmas?! Say I was stuck somewhere and needed money quickly to get home and tried to use my card to get it, only to find that Barclays had, for my own protection prevented me from taking my money out when I needed it?!
Seriously Barclays ... this is just bad practice! Where's the communication!?! Where's the effort to keep me as a customer?!

Barclays, oh barclays. to be fair to them they're the best bank i've been with yet - pretty helpful and understanding with my various panicky phone calls to them about overdrafts and large cheques coming out and the like (silly landlords taking three payments a year rather than weekly or monthly)
but they decided to suspend my account due to odd usage. the odd usage? i withdrew £300 from the counter, using I.D... then a couple months later withdrew money in Budapest (where I currently live).
maybe i could understand this as there was maybe two months with absolutely no activity beyond my usual direct debits, had i not been in branch to A) let them know and B) enquire about fee's should i need to use the card abroad. i told them the length and nature of my stay and they said so long as my english address is still my permanent residence there's no need to change my address to where i am staying in hungary, in fact it'd create more problems because it's a you.K bank and if i had a foreign address technically i'd be an expat or something blah blah blah.
anyway i didn't know anything about the suspension until my girlfriend and i arrived in croatia. two in the morning on a tiny island and we desperately need some kuna to get some food/beer, my card doesn't work and i have absolutely no method of phoning because my english sim doesn't work out here and i now can't afford to top of my phone with enough credit due to not being able to access my bank account! ah well... i leave in two weeks anyway so i guss i can sort it out then...

Closed my account yesterday ... I enjoyed telling the personal banker the laundry list of reasons when he asked why
