This is a good interview, with some interesting insights. BMG wanted to release the Best Of before Universe of Life for example - I think the band made the right choice to delay it. Edit - I forgot to add the link! drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4151341-some-of-our-biggest-hits-are-my-least-favourite-songs---dis-meets-feederAnd it's interesting how Grant mentioned two early songs here, plus the b-sides: "If you could have chosen a personal 'Best Of' which songs would you have put on the album? Lots of things! 'My Perfect Day', probably 'Descend', lots of quirky b-sides which I think are a massive part of who are and I really love." Grant also refused to include some rare demos - I can see his reasoning, but I'd love to hear them. Strong hints that MPD and Forget About Tomorrow will be in the Best Of tour, but that it will be very "singles heavy". And the big, exciting one... "Feeder's debut album Polythene turned 20 in May. Will you be doing anything to commemorate its anniversary? I'd love to do something. Maybe play the album in full at some point because it's something we've never done before? We have talked about it." But they are nervous about doing it. I reckon they could mix the tracks up - it doesn't have to be in album order - I just want to hear the songs! Grant loves YWTS too - I'd love to hear that myself, as much as Polythene. Grant's love of Silent Cry is interesting, considering it's been neglected live. It's probably my least favourite Feeder album, though the title track is amongst my favourite songs.

Also really liked this quote:
"We probably could make another B-sides album as there are loads of tracks knocking around so it's something we might do at some point. Maybe we could put a few more new tracks on there too? I want people to hear those songs. There's a lot of tracks that people might not have heard as they were only on one version or format of a single like a rare cassette or limited seven-inch. How many people have actually got those?"
There's a few tracks I'm missing still so would be great to get them.

Nice (long) interview. Seems like nothing is going to slow down Grant at the moment! Always interesting to see how bands look back at albums after they have been out for a while.
If the band are open to remasters then I really hope YWTS gets the treatment. I've always felt like it doesn't fit in production wise with the rest of Feeder's albums.

Thanks for sharing, it's a great in depth interview!
Lots to get excited about from reading it - arrow may get a stand alone release at some point with the three songs they didn't have time to finish for the Best Of.
Also would love a Polythene gig - the suggestion of playing an album through once every year is even better! Would love to see those shows happen. Also a special release of Polythene would be pretty cool.

Agreed about Silent Cry, his quote:
'I think Silent Cry is another important record. It has some of our best songs on it in terms of consistency. I think if we'd released Silent Cry after Comfort In Sound it would have been massive. It just wasn't the right time for that record. It's so frustrating because I really love that record'
Seems strange considering they'll rarely even play a single song from it live these days.

Could Silent Cry be their worst selling album? It was released during the downfall of Echo and had almost no promotion. I doubt anyone would recognise We Are The People or Tracing Lines as singles, and there's only a few slots in the set these days for album tracks (which is a shame as Sonorous is the best set opener they have!)

Agree with you on Sonorous - massively underrated track on a massively underrated album! Also on We Are The People and Tracing Lines, I felt We Are The People was the weakest track on Silent Cry, and whilst Tracing Lines is a solid song it’s not as strong as other album tracks. Then again I’ve always thought that Feeder’s single choices aren’t always the strongest! I’d love to see songs like Sonorous and Who’s The Enemy make it back into the set - up there with the best songs they’ve ever released.

I also think Miss You would go down really well live, thrown in among the heavier tracks to get the crowd going. It's quite short too, so would be easy to squeeze in.

I was quite surprised that "Pushing the Senses", which I would also label an "important" album, wasn't even mentioned in the interview.

Interesting that he mentioned the earliest song written was Figure You Out around the time of Yorktown Heights - which means Walk Away can't be the same song played in a live acoustic session around the Renegades era (2010ish). Love the idea of a Japanese only release of Arrow with the 3 extra songs on, make it into a fully fledged album. Obviously it'd piss people off a bit if it was done over here because it's buying the whole album again for the 3 extra tracks, but a Japanese only release would make it something quite nice and special IMO

Another good suggestion - Miss You would be a great live song to throw in to the set. I hope we at least get one of these Silent Cry songs in the set next time around!

Veins was also written for Yorktown Heights ... maybe he's forgotten that? ;-) Perhaps we shouldn't necessarily believe that Walk Away wasn't played in Japan at the time?
