It's been a while since I last posted here. To sum up my years of absence:
"All Bright Electric" (2016) was the album that unexpectedly got me back into Feeder, almost reintroducing them to me. They were no longer the guys I grew up with and had a soft spot for. And let's admit it; they were never going to create music that would blow me away with its complex structuring. Still, they had managed to enrich their honest grungy "back to roots" post-2010 attitude with some inventive rawness, resulting in a darker, albeit more sophisticated sound. Gone were the days of the poppy, unapologetic radio-friendly hits such as "Buck Rogers" or the melodic arena anthems ("Feeling A Moment") from their commercial heyday. Even when a song was catchy, it had to be badass too! Adding to the mix the sporadic appearance of a few quite refreshing artistic ideas, Feeder were legitimately demanding back my attention.
Although "Tallulah" was kinda a backstep (with the notable exception of the exquisite "Windmill"), "Torpedo" seems like a return to the "ABE" approach, pushing the boundaries of what is possible within the tight post-grunge formula. Upon hearing "The Healing" and "When It All Breaks Down" (the latter is definitely single material regardless of how the band treats it), I caught myself genuinely swooning over a Feeder song after many years. As for my conclusion? These alt-rock veterans still possess the ability to surprise, even without reinventing the wheel.

It seems we have the same opinions on our favourite band and their last two albums. Not going to listen to the album in full until my package arrives (hopefully) tomorrow. I'm sure I'm going to love it though, and more so than Tallulah. I can't wait.

I'm enjoying the new album, particularly 'When It All Breaks Down' and 'Born To Love You', which I think would make a great set-closer.

Absolute energy and positivity with the album. Lets hope it gets the charting position it deserves.
Not going to comment in depth yet but i'm absolutely loving hide and seek. Just love its beauty but in past albums i use to be bored of the lead singles and avoid playing them but on this record i still play them without skipping as they are bangers...... its a great album to hit the gym with so far

I haven't looked what else is out this week, but my guess is top 5 for the UK album chart. The only other time I've paid attention to the charts this year, Sea Power were number 1 on the midweek chart and ended up top 5 (after 20 years, by far their highest charting album). And Torpedo has more editions. The main downside is there might be reduced sales with Grant being ill and some of the instore performances being postponed or downgraded to signings only.

Realistically, competition will be ArrDee (who will have streaming on his side...), Sea Girls (something like 25 variants of their album...), and maybe Charli XCX too. I think Ed Sheeran will complete Top 5 too. Quietly optimistic that they might get a much belated #1 (conveniently with my favourite release since maybe Renegades?), but I think Top 5 is easily on lock.

There's no chance of number 1 from a number 3 in the midweek charts, so fingers-crossed Torpedo hangs on for a top 5!

I think they're safe for #5!
Was at the Rough Trade show today... Slightly disappointed Grant did an audience vote thing between High and YWTS (as the former was gonna win, and I don't think I've heard YWTS live yet!), but otherwise it was very good!
(also managed to get my Two Colours CD/7" signed... So I'm over the moon!)

Uh yeah, I don't like the votes. I remember one gig where Grant suggested Turn or 7DITS, and there was only ever one winner. Grant didn't enunciate Turn all that well either, maybe because he knew it wouldn't 'win' and it's one of his favourites based on past interviews.
Anyway, fingers-crossed Grant is well today and ready for the Liverpool gig tomorrow. I'd love to hear YWTS acoustic.
As for the charts, number 5 it is. Feeders 10th top 10!

I LOVE Turn. Still waiting to hear that live...
I was once as a gig where the audience forgot the words to Seven Days, however... (Grant did an audience sing the opening lyrics thing 😂).
In case anyone cares...
01 16,117 Charli XCX - CRASH [5,339 CDs, 5,351 vinyl, 1,106 cassettes, 496 downloads, 3,825 streaming] 02 9,703 ArrDee - Pier Pressure 03 9,576 Sea Girls - Homesick 04 7,869 Ed Sheeran - = 05 6,055 Feeder - Torpedo
