Full album of instrumentals is nice. Hopefully the precursor to officially releasing all the other instrumentals...

Well, my comment the other day seems to have sparked them to do this, which is good xD I wasn't expecting the whole album instrumentally, that's awesome. Plus a track in Dolby Atmos is really cool if you're into that and have the setup. I do find it funny that there's an instrumental version of Droids though.... a track which is already instrumental!

The 'deluxe' album sounds fun, but the timing feels a bit cynical. On the silly side, it gives us a fourth spelling of one of the songs. So it's: 🤷♂️ It seems like most people have it tagged as 'AI Man'. But I have it as 'AI M^N', as is spelt on the CD itself. Going back to our discussion about inconsistencies and lack of attention to detail - this split of spellings seems like another example!

First impressions. By no means a bad album. But it leaves me with a similar feeling to All Bright Electric, Arrow, Tallulah and Torpedo. Too many of the tracks lack enough individualism, so one merges into another. There are some tracks that start so well and I get 'the feeder feels', but then things seem to fizzle out. Lacking the vocal and lyrical hooks. I have found the same with all the albums mentioned above, plus Renegades and some of Generation Freakshow. Hopefully I will feel differently over time, though I haven't with the others.

After a week Ghosts on Parade is my favourite 'new' song on the album. It slaps.

I think it’s wonderful 🙂 Unconditional into Here Comes The Hurricane is currently my favourite moment, although listening to the Submarine instrumental is giving me full on Whos The Enemy vibes and that’s one of my favourite Feeder songs ever

Yup, it's certainly getting lots of plays with me. After a week Ghosts on Parade is my favourite 'new' song on the album. It slaps. Yeah definitely one of my favourites as well, it's a good album closer.

Yeah honestly this is sort of how I've felt about all of Feeder's output over the past 8 years. Slightly less so with All Bright Electric actually, but everything since then all sounds like it could've come from the same album. Going to try and stick with Black/Red and leave it in my rotation for a while to see if it starts to click and form its own personality - especially as it's longer than most too. Though I will admit I was slightly disappointed to read somewhere that Grant had already written a lot of the next album - as to me that just says I'm going to be left with a similar feeling next time round if there's not been any discernible gap in the writing process. Whether or not that's actually true though, who knows.

Echoing the thoughts above: apart from a few songs on Arrow (to an extent) Tallulah, Torpedo & Black / Red, the albums kinda merge into one. I like the music, but I haven't gone back to any of them as whole piece and awful lot (we'll see if that changes with B/R...).
All Bright Electric was the last that felt different to these... Not sure either Renegades or Generation Freakshow can really be interchanged with each other (or any of the recent albums...). I reckon Grant has just settled into a writing style that he's happy with! I happy with getting a decent handful of songs that I love from each album, either way. The band have given me so much great music over the years! 😍
Also... Ended at #8 on 7,358 sales (source, buzzjack.com). Pretty much on par with Tallulah, this was just a pretty competitive week - they were the 5th highest new entry!

Agreed: Feeder have been stuck in one gear since Arrow. Maybe it's time for another break and Grant's second solo album?
On the upside, I'm enjoying Red/Black more and more.

So... a week in, is the two-album idea holding up for you? That is: are you finding enough differentiation between "Black" and "Red"?
And if so, do you have a favourite side?
Personally, I'd say yes and, if pushed, I'd say I prefer "Red".

Personally, I'd say yes and, if pushed, I'd say I prefer "Red". The more I listen the more I can just about differentiate a sonic theme between Black and Red. Hey You has no right to be on Black though if they were really trying to make both disks sound different. Swap it with Ghosts on Parade and it would make much more sense.
I too prefer Red at the moment, but that's probably just because there are more new songs on that disk.
Anyone done a full listen in one sitting to the 'trillogy' staring with Torpedo yet?

On another note, gutted I'm only just realising there's a gorgeous chequerboard vinyl that completely sold out! (Only found out about it from a pic on Feeder's Facebook which has all the variants in it) Was it promoted anywhere other than blood records? Because my periodic googling to find other versions didn't come across that one once! Now have a copy: only because the husband picked me one up from someone selling on eBay (assuming they bought multiple copies, which always irritates me, or just bought one to sell on - but can't knock someone for wanting to make a bit of money [and could have intended to save one to have signed/one unsigned that didn't work out for all I know!]). I very nearly ended up with the test pressing as it was in my basket when the album first went up for order, but couldn't justify the 100 odd quid (and don't have any of the other test pressings at all, so decided best to consider that a completely different collection 😂).

Think I need to keep listening! Both 'albums' have roughly the same feel to me... I could also see the whole of Torpedo sitting on Black / Red too, so yeah... Small nitpick that I've just thought of: this is a double album... There are two LPs (can't fit 18 tracks on one record), two CDS (despite being able to easily fit 18 tracks on one CD...); why is there only one cassette? It's a double album, they should have no place on the same cassette 😂 (I know there are two sides to a cassette, but it just feels odd - especially when The Best Of is sitting on the shelf proudly as a double cassette 🙊)
