I'm so pissed off right now, infact, so angry that I bought 20 bottles of Bud tonight instead of the regular 6 bottles for a friday night...
A customer brought his computer in just before christmas, it needed a re-install, he brought all the disks he had with him too. But there was a problem:
His Windows XP Professional CD key was not genuine (I knew this the moment I saw it). I didn't tell him at the time, but I quote vaguely what he said:
"I copied it off the XP box when I made a copy of the disk, it is genuine"
OK, I put his disk in, installed Windows (as I would with any genuine windows install), sure enough it failed the genuine CD key check. Which ment it was un-useable.
I knew it wasn't a genuine CD key because it was exactly the same CD key I use for my copy of XP Pro (yes i know, I'm naughty), and I knew that it won't pass genuine checks, it needs a file modified in the windows folder. I still installed it just so I could say I tried his supposed Genuine key.
So after telling him his CD key wouldn't work, he agreed to get an XP Home ordered in (the clearest sign of somebody who knows their CD key isn't genuine)
This customer came in on monday morning to see if his computer was done - fair enough, it had been in since just before xmas, but we had delivary problems so were waiting for windows XP disks to arrive. I told him it would be done by Thursday
It went on my bench on tuesday morning (as the XP disks finally arrived!)... I re-installed Windows with his now genuine XP home disk which had arrived, but had other problems with it.
So it came to tuesday afternoon, I was working away at it trying to figure out what the fuck was wrong with it, tested everything in it, came up clean with no faults found at all. He came in on tuesday afternoon, despite me telling him just 1 day ago it would be done [you]on Thursday[/you].
Wednesday I tried (out of curiosity a new DVD drive, re-installed Windows again, bingo! found the problem, which wasn't detected in the testing program. So got windows installed, plugged his CD drive in, ran a head cleaning disk on it, all worked fine. He came in again on wednesday... [you]I told him FUCKING THURSDAY!!![/you]
Thursday came along, I finished installing the drivers just after I got to work, superb. I was done with it, he could come in any time he wanted on thursday and pick it up. Which he did (amazingly!)
And finally today, the last straw...
10 minutes before i finished work the wanker came in again with it (i had a feeling he might at some point), he said these exact words to me:
"i have no faith in your ability, it still doesn't work, i'm not happy"
amongst alot of other things which i just tuned out of, I just smiled at him and let him say what he wanted.
At this point I wanted to call him every single name under the sun, but I knew Johanne (the person i work with in the workshop) was behind me on another computer listening in, I just waited for her to come in. She put him well in his place, when she's set off at somebody, there ain't no stopping her.
The reason I didn't stand up for myself was because:
1. I was quite pissed off and would have spoke my mind, called him a fucking wanker, and told him to piss off somewhere else with it.
2. My boss was stood at the door listening in
3. I knew Jo would put the point across much better than I would have. And she's worked there for 7 years, there ain't no way she's gonna get the sack.
He said to me the last thing he installed was his Digital Camera software, but he told my boss something completely different...
His problem (as he said it to my boss):
He installed a defrag program which was made for [you]WINDOWS 98[/you](!!!!)
So to put this simply... this guy is the biggest lying fucking tosser in the world, it's not ever his fucking fault. Hell the person I thought was the biggest liar in the world isn't anymore!!
So, I had a chat with the boss, and he gave me permission to prove that it wasn't anything I did and it was something he did and rub it in his face. AND tell him that I knew his XP Pro CD key was invalid from the start
