Argh this uni has peeved me off
I applied for two courses there, Town Planning and Media,Communication and Cultural studies. At the moment i am studying English Lit, Drama and Geography and want to be a Journalist or something in that sort of field.
I have been accepted onto the Town Planning course no problem. I have been rejected for the other.
So i enquired about this, my personal statement says all i want to do it be a journalist and one year of this course is journalism, so i didn't understand why i was rejected. Had a short e-mail back saying:
Thank you for your email enquiring about your unsuccessful application onto the Media, Communication and Cultural Studies Degree Programme. The selector has stated that your performance in your GCSE's and your predicted grades were the factor in making you an unsuccessful decision. However, if you wish to discuss this further with the selector you are welcome to contact him at tony.purvis@ncl.ac.uk.
My GCSE grades where 3A's 2 C's the rest B's. Pretty good for a slightly dyslexic student
I am predicted 3 B's at the moment which i know i am going to get.
So i am really pissed off because i personally don't understand what is wrong with my grades. Says nothing on the website about what grades you need.

Keep pestering them about it, it works. My sister wanted to do a Photography course, but was initially rejected. She phoned them up and decided to give her an interview, and she got on the course. Okay, she dropped out a month later cause she hated it, but that's her. I hope you can work it out Drop the guy an e-mail or phone him, see what happens. Best of luck.

it's certainly worth talking to them about it. Are they aware of your dyslexia ?

I doubt it, i have it very slightly and was not granted any extra time for my exams, I last had a test for it a few years back and god knows where the results are.
I am going to e-mail the head of department and see what feedback i get. Its looking for like i am going to be the UK in Feb for interviews so i could argue my case in person.

SCREW NORTHUMBRIA UNI AS WELL
I was offered an interview on the 18th of December for a Performance degree, which obviously i couldn't attend. I rang the uni 2 weeks ago to ask when the next ones would be so i could attend one of them, the woman said she would e-mail me. So i just rang back today because i have had no word and found out there are interviews on the 6th and 20th of Feb which are all full. Flights for going back the UK are around 450 quid at the moment and i was told i was priority as i need to fly home. What a load of bullshite. Been told i will get an e-mail tomorrow to see if they can squeeze me in on the 20th. Doubt i will get a fucking e-mail and will have to call back
WANKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My parents are livid because this is going to cost a bomb. What pisses me off even more is, last week i asked my parents if i could call the uni as they have not got back in contact with me and they said no just leave it.
Only advantage is, if i am in the UK for the 21st of Feb, which i hopefully will be, i will get to see The Sugars

Moral to this story is come to sheffield and do journalism. But seriously, newcastle is a great place and all, but do you have to go to uni there? There are so many other places in britain that are fantastic.

Because i have been away from my home town for 10 years now i really do not want to go anywhere else, i know if i did i would regret not going to Newcastle. I do have family and relationship ties there now and i love the place more than anything

hope it all gets sorted Katie. the one thing i will say though is if you do end up going to a different uni it'll be 'cos thats the right one.. i had my heart set on going to sheffield when i applied, got rejected and was totally gutted. leeds had just been literally a place i'd stuck on my list to make up the numbers, but ended up going there and it was great - met people who are friends for life (ie current housemates!) who i just wouldn't have known otherwise. same thing happened to another mate, she really really wanted to go to derby, was rejected and is now in birmingham and loving it. of course hopefully newcastle and/or northumbria will work out, but try not to see it as end of world if it doesn't.
