i hate the underground. Got stuck on a train in one of the tunnels once during a power cut. Not a nice experience when you're claustophobic. it was so dark and hot.
its so bloody hot and stuffy down there, i really dont know how people who live or work in London manage to use it every day. and dont even get me started on the lifts at stations like covent garden!

Never been down the underground..I was only in London for a short period of time, and mainly in Heathrow. Awful experience! Been on the Metro though, that wasn't too bad at all. I have so many left over metro tickets, haha.

The airport! Well...you try being stuck in it for a whole day when you're waiting to go to Singapore and having to eat the expensive food and looking at the painfully expensive products ($350 for a scarf? PLEASE!) and having to surrender a whole pound for 10 mins of trying to type on this e-machine with a glorified ATM keypad so that you can send your travel details back to Australia cause you're stranded!

Heathrow is a shithole, too big aand horrible - its my least favourite airport apart from this one in France which the terminal building basically consisted of a shed (sooooo boring to wait 2 hours in) Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports all the way I love the Underground. A piece of enginerring brilliance. Stacey loves it more though. Guess I'm spoilt by the fact I use the Glasgow Underground all the time (my flat is a minute away from one of the busiest stations) and it is a far lesxs stressful expierience, and so when i go in London I can't stand it Hahah I really like public transport things here more than in London - guess I must sound really biased but I suppose the relatively peaceful quietness that I live in here in Scotland makes me kind of averse to London in general - don't get me wrong I don't really dislike London, just feel I'd raather go to Norwich or somewhere like that when I'm in England

I'd get taxi if i could afford them, but an all zones travelcard only costs me a quid, so i'd be daft not to use the tube really, which is why i force myself to.

have you thought about busing it instead? on oyster card a single bus fare is 90p, and if you do more journeys then it caps you at £3.

I've been to these airports in my trip overseas: - Sydney - Changi (Great, and actually cheap unlike every other airport in the world) - Heathrow - Newcastle (now that's like a shed, haha. There isn't much there!) - Brussels (we weren't there for long, picking up a hire car) - Charles De Gaulle (France. That place is a nightmare! They don't have signs anywhere, just this crazy announcement woman who comes on and says something like "Monsieur e Madame...heeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" every 10 mins. Still, better than Heathrow) - Geneva - Barcelona - Porto Personally, I think Changi was the best, and Heathrow was the worst. Then again, a lot of the airports I didn't stay in very long, whereas I was in both Changi and Heathrow for a long time so I have a reasonable appreciation of what they're like! We don't have trains in Canberra. I think they're going to build us a light rail system which will be nice, cause the public transport here blows. This city is only about 97 years old, so it's built for cars - really spread out!

- Charles De Gaulle (France. That place is a nightmare! They don't have signs anywhere, just this crazy announcement woman who comes on and says something like "Monsieur e Madame...heeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" every 10 mins. Awful awful airport. When we went to Paris it took us ages to find the bus to take us to hotel. Kept going round in circles. And it didn't help that one of our friends gets far too stressed out. So you're trying to find your way round and deal with her as well. Leeds/Bradford airport...too small It's stupid that a city like Leeds has such a shitty airport. There's bugger all to do, especially if you have an early flight...we were checked in but weren't allowed through to the departure lounge so we had nothing to do but fight for one of the 5 seats and wait for WH Smiths to open to get a magazine. Manchester - I like it. Big without being insanely massive and i've mastered the art of knowing what time to get there to check in that means i don't have to queue for long but still have time to sit and have tea and a muffin in the cafe while watching other planes take off.

France..well, I really liked it (didn't see much, I saw a bit of Paris, and Burgandy), but there were a few issues. Such as the traffic in Paris. I was majorly busting and we had about 10 ks to go to our hotel but it took us about 3 hours! I was like..dying! The roundabouts are so bad, no one stays in one lane. Luckily when we went to Charles De Gaulle it was only to pick my Mum up, we didn't have to wait there for long. Just took us ages to find arrivals (we were going "arrive? Arrive?" to everyone - yes, that's arrive with an accent which I can't type on this keyboard.) There was no sign! Gah...heathrow. We had to take this bus to our hotel which cost 4 pounds each for a 15 minute trip (this is Dad and I, we got stranded there and we had to stay somewhere). 8 pounds for a bus trip! AARGH! That's about...$20! For perspective, a bus fare in Canberra costs around $1.50, which is about 60 p, perhaps?

Traffic in paris is horrendous. Me and Lindsey were crossing a road once and despite the fact the green man was on cars were still tearing towards us. And then there was this 7 lane road we had to cross (and that was just going 1 way...took us ages. Seriously you can't go to Paris for the day...you need a whole weekend.

Haha..well, obviously I can't go to Paris for the day! I'd have to go for at least a week to make the flights worthwhile. We were in Paris for about..maybe 2.5 days?

This city is only about 97 years old, so it's built for cars - really spread out! I can't remember most of the airports I've been too but I have to say Sydney is quite good, Singapore is good, Dubai sucks cause all the chairs in it were hard and uncomfortable to sit on (although apart from that it was good). And they don't have trains in Canberra!!! Bloody hell! In saying that I wasn't too keen on the Aussie rail system around Sydney - it seemed even less efficient than our system (and thats saying something) and the ticket collectors looked more like security guards - we usually got the boat down from Parramatta to the centre of Sydney instead - it was a very pleasant expierience

there's no train station in Gosport either (although there is a Southern Rail Training Centre ... go figure?!) I had no issues with the underground yesterday apart from dithering foreigners.

I didn't mean going from Australia to Paris in a day More like if you're in France anyway and you want to visit Paris...allow more than a day. The train system (well the bit we used) in France was good though.

Well...let's just say that we a) don't really have German efficiency here, and b) Canberra isn't really the best capital city in the world which is partially why no one wants to go here or even acknowledge it as capital. It was supposed to be half way between Melbourne and Sydney - well, a) we're hundreds of ks away from the coast, which sucks, and b) it takes about 4 hours to drive to Sydney and 8 to go to Melbourne. Go figure. So yes, no trains. Everyone hates Canberra, partially because we're blamed for all the stupid laws that get undertaken here in parliament. The headlines read stuff like "CANBERRA PUTS IN NEW TAX PLAN" when it wasn't us, it was the Australian government! To a lot of people Canberra = public servants. Gah.

Never been to Canberra, although my stepfather who went there 20 years ago liked it.
I guess you'll get that kind of stuff when a city is built to be a capital. At least with London and Edinburgh they are both famous for things other than being centres of government

What made it worse was the fact that there were policeman stood by the side of the road as drivers were going through red lights right next to them! I can believe that driver looked at us as if we were insane when we thanked him for stopping at the red light.
