...is the result of The Cakes spending 2 days in a former nuclear bunker. PC Users: Right-click, Save Target As, open and listen, save to your MP3 player if you have one... Mac Users: I don't know, but they were recorded on a Mac. Does that make up for me not knowing? 3 Dance Keith, Dance (this is my favourite) 2 Chatter (this is my 2nd favourite) 1 Edible Drums (I don't like this recording very much) The tracks can also be downloaded or streamed from here: www.last.fm/music/The+Cakes/Mothers+Against+BaconFeel free to leave us love on www.last.fm/music/The+Cakes and/or www.myspace.com/thecakesloveyouIt makes us feel good, and also makes us look more popular. Thanks to the FFSers who've listened to us in the past (and hopefully the future). I bet this looks like spam with all the links, oh well...here is a brief history lesson in optimism that new people will download them: Sunday - Bored of Cities - Quarantine - Doubts - Six Years B.C.[edited to update links and add Spotify: ]

Dance Keith, Dance is really good! Haven't heard the others yet. I must ask, how did you record it?

Dance Keith, Dance is really good! Haven't heard the others yet. I must ask, how did you record it? The former nuclear bunker is now a recording studio; 'tis the same dood who we recorded our first CD (Quarantine) with, although he's just moved to the new location. P.S. if anyone wonders, despite the jokey names, these are serious rock songs!

I'm recording music myself using a line-in cable from my keyboard (pathetic I know). I'm interested to know what type of gear you used to record in such high quality... like how much is it, did you record each instrument or everyone at the same time, is it a small recording device etc. Just curious!

Ah right, not pathetic at all.
We just paid someone to do it. £360 for two days, 'tis a proper decent recording studio with £1000s worth of equipment. All instruments were recorded separately.
From our other songs I've listed up there, Doubts and Six Years B.C. were done by ourselves and a friend (all instruments at once) with the amps/microphones going through to a small mixer and then the PC I think. I didn't know much about it but would like to record some stuff at home myself. I was recommended a Soundcraft Compact4 for a decent mixer, which is about £50, though the amount of instruments you can connect at the same time is limited. You could pick up a decent 8-track recorder for quite a small price too.
I don't think it's necessary to record separately; Sunday and Bored of Cities were live takes and I reckon they sound good for it...it added rawness and probably sounds more like we do at gigs.

Hey Cheers for the songs, definitely up there with your best stuff. I was surprised to see the band as The Cakes though, didn't it get changed to Relocate My Satellites? Or did I dream that?! James

meant to mention this before, edible drums seems to cut off halfway through? intentional or not?
*edit* don't worry, compared it with Stacey - it's obviously my download of it, only plays 1min5 secs!

(Apologies for the late replies, me has been away for most of September) Hey Cheers for the songs, definitely up there with your best stuff. I was surprised to see the band as The Cakes though, didn't it get changed to Relocate My Satellites? Or did I dream that?! James Thank you. And that's true, the remaining band members saw sense at long last! Just a shame we lost thecakes.co.uk Just listening now. Very, very good. You're not far off a record deal if all your stuff is of this ilke? Two very's, that is high praise, thanks again. We do seem to find we make pop songs with ease for some reason, we don't know why and it makes us laugh sometimes...sometimes we just think we think they're good because we're in the band and that's what bands always think. It's always tough choosing what to record. Chatter, for example, is a pretty old song. We've recorded around 10 songs that are newer than that one so it's lucky to have made a comeback. We wrote a new song specifically for this recording session and practiced it, but then we did Dance Keith, Dance with a few rehearsals to go and decided to use that instead. I'm thinking Dance Keith, Dance should be track 1 instead of Edible Drums. Any thoughts?

Heh I find writing pop songs to be a lot easier as well. The lyrics just come so easily to me... I mean I wrote this song called 'This Girl' and I think it sounds similar to Scouting For Girls (which tbh isn't a very good thing since all their songs sound near the same) but it's weird because all my other songs are inspired by Feeder.

You're not far off a record deal if all your stuff is of this ilke? Oh, and as for that, the chances of a record deal are less than minimal. It would be amazing to release something on a small independent label though.
