Yes, I'm bored and on a Zoom call 😂 So, a Feeder show has a familiar rhythm: 6 or 7 songs from the latest album, the old hits, and maybe a wild card, like 'Tangerine' on the Red/Black tour or 'Comfort in Sound' on the Tallulah tour. So here's a game. What would you pick, if you could: - reinstate a former live staple
- pick a deep cut
- add a song they've never played live before
For me, it'd be: - Waiting for Changes or We Can't Rewind
- Chicken on a Bone
- 8:18

What would you pick, if you could:
reinstate a former live staple : Descend - I'd love to hear what Tommy would bring to the table on this. As their sets are only about 1 hour 45 mins, they'd have the time to do the loooong versions. pick a deep cut : - Burn The Bridges - Only played a couple of times on The Singles tour before it was postponed. It was dropped for the second half of the tour and my delayed date at the Hammersmith apollo. It's the song that got away for me! add a song they've never played live before : Submission - Quickly became one of my favourite Feeder songs when Torpedo was released, seemed to get mentioned up a fair amount in album reviews so I really thought it would be in the Torpedo set.

At this point, I just want to hear anything from Silent Cry (that isn't Silent Cry, itself - it was never a big fave of mine from that album). My first Feeder show was in 2010, so all the Silent Cry songs had already been dropped. 😔
So... Former live staple: Descend
Rarity: Who's the Enemy (though would take most of Silent Cry... And have long thought that a Descend/Sonorous mashup would be AMAZING, so we could get two Silent Cry songs if that happened!)
Song never played: no idea what hasn't been played live... Feel It Again was always a fave of mine, and was only a B Side, so that (if it hasn't)

For me;
Former live staple - Descend, easily. Although considering it's not been a staple for close to 20 years at this point, Come Back Around if we want something more recent. I'd take that over Insomnia any day.
Rarity - Day In Day Out. Considering it was a single with a music video and everything, they've played that song a shockingly low number of times - and not for 22 years at this point! Although yeah I always say this, but I would happily just take anything from Silent Cry. All but the title track from that album hasn't been played in 15 years now, which is mad.
Never played - Radioman. Legitimately one of my favourite Feeder songs, could push for top 10.

I'd take that over Insomnia any day. Come Back Around isn't a 'former' live staple I'm glad to report, it was played at the Oxford show I went to last month and has been in and out even on the most recent album tours. I realise I was lucky and it was only played at a handful of shows. These days it's more of a 50/50 really, provided you have a full length set. I too would prioritize it over Insomnia personally. Former Live Staple - I have to agree with almost everyone else so far and choose Descend - it's one of the best Feeder songs ever, and obviously shines in an expanded live context. Pick a Deep Cut - This category is almost identical to 'song they've never played before' but I'll play along! For me I'd choose Wall of Silence for a very recent track (they played it live like, a handful of times?) or something like Itsumo or Stereo World. Does Stereo World count as a former live staple though? In the nineties it would have been, right? I was lucky enough to see it live on the Best of Tour. It's one of their best heavy songs in my opinion. *Does some setlist digging* ..... actually I've been lucky enough to see Itsumo live as well! they played it at a small gig in Camden I went to in 2008 when Silent Cry was new. Shame I don't remember that track being played particularly.... Song they've never played live before - if Feeder would completely transform into an electronic outfit for a couple of songs (Never going to happen, I know) I'd be dreaming if Purify was played. Submission or 8:18 are fantastic choices too though, Submission is one of my faves from Torpedo, an album full of faves.

Evergreen would be the reinstate for me.
I think deep cuts probably encompasses any b-side that was played prior to album launch and so wasn't actually a b-side yet! Buzz, Polaroid, Disco, Victoria, Slowburn, someone already said Feel it Again... Pretty tough to pick though.
Never played - maybe Change for me. Of course I have no clue if they've really never played it. You would think all the Polythene era songs would have been played at least once. Scrolling back through setlist.fm one of the gigs even listed Spill as being the opener...

Bored in a meeting again, I had a play with the Black/Red set.
In London, they played:
1. ELF 2. Kyoto 3. Feeling a Moment 4. Lost in the Wilderness 5. Fear of Flying 6. Just the Way I'm Feeling 7. The Knock 8. Hey You 9. Playing With Fire 10. Come Back Around 11. Insomnia 12. Tangerine 13. Torpedo 14. High 15. Buck Rogers Encore 16. Soldiers of Love 17. Just a Day
It didn't quite fire for me.
Having listened to the album, I think there are better songs. And certainly some that would have absolutely slapped live.
So, out go: The Knock and Soldiers of Love, and in go Scream, Perfume, Memory Loss and Ghosts on Parade, at the expense of a few Tallulah tracks that aren't mega hits, but have been played on 3 tours in a row now: Fear of Flying and Kyoto.
Then there's the question of Buck Rogers and Just a Day. I'd love to see Buck Rogers moved into middle of the main set to combat its mythology, and an acoustic version of Just a Day (it'd be refreshing and make for a glorious sing-along).
Tangerine was fun, but if we're going back in time, let's go all the way back: Chicken on a Bone.
Then, since it's the 25th anniversary of YWTS, it'd be great to get that in there.
And finally, this thread showed that people love Descend.
So putting all that together:
1. ELF 2. Scream 3. Feeling a Moment 4. Hey You 5. Lost in the Wilderness 6. Just the Way I'm Feeling 7. Perfume 8. Playing With Fire 9. Buck Rogers 10. Memory Loss 11. Chicken on a Bone 12. Insomnia 13. High 14. Ghosts on Parade Encore: 15. Just a Day (acoustic) 16. Descend 17. Yesterday Went Too Soon
Now there's a show 🤩

And it's not a wild pipedream either - that's totally within the realms of possibility if Grantly was just a little imaginative. You've got the biggest 4/(5?) hits still, and same amount of songs too. Love the idea of JaD acoustic - it's always been very 'meh' for me normally. But everyone loves it!

Some shows got The Healing, Universe of Life and one got Renegades... There was alot of great music during that time, why is it not being included in the set?

Like you say, I wanted to make sure it had all the hits and was the same length. The thing I didn't say, actually, is that I think it's really important to end the main set with a track from the new album. Otherwise it kinda says to the audience that you don't think your new material is as strong as the old stuff. One of my favourite Feeder shows ever was the 'Generation Freakshow' preview at Koko. They played 8 tracks from the album (before it had been released), closed the main set with 'Generation Freakshow' itself and tore the roof off the place. My biggest issue with this would be that, in a set that already discarded the existence of any material between 2006 and 2018, it would now be extending that to most of 2023! ...There was alot of great music during that time, why is it not being included in the set? I hear you. My guess is that it's a reflection of the fact that their big hits are all pre-2006. So, unless they play longer shows or get bolder about not letting those hits dictate a third of every set, they're going to be drawn to playing the hits, plus whatever's most recent and therefore exciting to them. Although as you say, it means that anything in the middle falls away

Although I'm looking at the gig they played at the other end of the year in Brixton - my god that looks amazing. A set full of Generation Freakshow including that title track, with a 5 song encore including Sweet 16, Descend AND Shade! Never thought an encore could conceivably contain that as late as 2012.

Just booked tickets for one of the festivals this summer, which got me thinking about the setlist. I'm assuming that festival sets are shorter than when they're on tour, which unfortunately means they have to be very efficient and mostly play the big singles. I'd love for them to play something like this though:
1. Sonorous 2. My Perfect Day 3. Torpedo 4. Come Back Around 5. Yesterday Went Too Soon 6. Fires 7. Hey You 8. The Knock 9. Buck Rogers 10. Polythene Girl 11. Feeling A Moment 12. Soldiers of Love 13. Just The Way I'm Feeling 14. Veins 15. High 16. Just A Day
Probably waaaay too long for a festival setlist but whatever. I think it would give a nice blend of their different styles, while also having a (sort of) A/B side feel. The last half is very anthemic and should get any crowd going. I think Droids/ELF is a good opener but I've watched them play it on tour and Grant really seems to struggle with the verse melody on ELF for some reason, so I've left that out.
