i'm supposed to be having a mini holiday in London starting tomorrow with one of my best mates. We had planned to to do a 3 day girly trip. Lost about 80 pound in the process, money i really can't afford to loose.

I'm planning on going to Romania (mainly Transylvania) in September/October.
One of my workmates was supposed to be flying to Australia for 3 weeks today. Him and his family had been planning it for years!

What attracts you to Romania then Alex?
At least they can get a refund though, that's something.
I can't complain about being "stuck" I'm at home so its not like I'm having to pay for accommodation, but its sucking the life out of my annual leave at work.

That volcano messed many trips up! Not only trips... Last Friday there was a woman at a party in the restaurant where I work: the next day her husband died in London and she couldn't leave because flights were cancelled and trains and busses were packed. She paid 3000€ for a taxi ride from here to London. I felt so bad for her

Gorgeous mountain scenery, medieval castles (in gorgeous mountain scenery!), historic towns (with medieval castles!)...and it's probably a good time to go before it becomes too Westernised. Look at this place for example: The guy who is supposed to be off to Australia will find out on Saturday if he can go on Monday! Have you asked if your work can come to any compromise? It is rather extenuating circumstances. That is pretty sad Elisa. It shows how reliant modern society is on certain things. Will we learn from it? Probably not. It is a doom scenario but I've always said that the more technologically advanced (and the more reliant on other countries for food etc.) we become, the bigger the problems when something goes wrong.

9 extra days in Auckland - there were far worse places to be stuck!
have to say though, horrible stressful experience getting to the airport for our original flight home to be handed a disclaimer by the airline telling us they recommend we don't travel that day, if we get on the flight and it terminates in LA the airline have no obligation to fly us on, that there's no accomodation and any expenses incurred will be paid for by ourselves, but "heathrow is currently closed, but might re-open while the flight is in the air to LA... oh and they next flight we can book you on is after the 15th may...."
12,000 miles feels like a very long way from home when there's no flights! last flight to be canceleld (if heathrom had been opened 2 hours earlier we could've gone!) but we had a fun extra 9 days checking out more beaches.
now i have to work out how to make up 43.5 hours of work.....

Ouch! I didn't even realise it was 3 weeks since you'd gone. But worth it for what was hopefully a holiday of a lifetime? Someone where I work was stuck in Bangkok for 2 weeks, and they had chicken pox too. They were only passing through on the way home from elsewhere.

So you're getting married? Congratulations! All of those potential honeymoon destinations would come highly recommended from me...Prague probably the least but only because it's become a major stag-do destination. I'm just back from an extended weekend in Snowdonia. It was good.
