Stacey, tell us about your holidays! How did they go? It was fab. Really enjoyed it. Lots of Sangria and Mojito was had. We didn't spend much time sunbathing partly as it was too intense on the beach and partly because we get bored after a couple of hours. How people can sit on the beach/by the pool all day every day is beyond me. We went to the animal sanctuary Loro Parque one day. Did a Jeep Safari where we 3 were the only British people out of 50. And we got the total nutjob for a driver. But everyone else was looking at us wishing they were on our fun jeep We also went to Mount Teide and went up the cablecar. I didn't have any better footwear to walk the final bit plus they limit the number of people they allow up per day. But next time i'm going right up. I'll get some photos up this eve hopefully. I do wish i'd gone for 10 days though (but it was too expensive when booking). 2 weeks would have been to much really but i needed a few more days so i could do a day trip to La Gomera and then Mount Teide by night. We had a slight incident when my friend caught someone in the doorway to our apartment. He then came back but my friend was behind the door and wouldn't let them in. We told management who called the Police. We were expecting a couple of local or tourist Police to turn up. But no, we got 6 National Police! 4 of whom were rather, ahem, lovely Oh, and i got bitten on my leg by something. Looked like a baby vampire bite It swelled right up and looked like it was gonna blister but it's gone right down now. No idea what it was

another summer is passing me by - no money and no passport! however one of my flatmates and i are looking at some extensive euro hostelling for our next summer, either that or a placement type scheme thingy to some exotic place or another! planning is half the fun

if you're thinking of hostelling then a years YHA membership might be worth the investment - if you're using enough YHA hostels then the saving in accomodation costs by having a membership should mean it pays for itself. i had one to cover our NZ trip, from memory a years membership was £22, and a night accomodation as a member can save £3-£4 as opposed to being non-member

good shout on the YHA membership. I looked in to getting one this summer anyway after I lost my house; but it's ridiculously hard and expensive to find beds in London anyway, especially at YHA places! Will definitely look in to that as they're usually a lot more comfortable than some of the dives i have been living in for the last month :/

Hostels in London? Have you tried www.hostelworld.com ? I never have any problems finding a bed in London, and the last hostel I stayed in was £8 a night (I think it was in Camden).

I never have any problems finding a bed in London, and the last hostel I stayed in was £8 a night (I think it was in Camden). yes i'd use hostelworld and hostelbookers and the like when i could, the issue was having no money, no internet access and it being summer it is very hard to find beds that were within our budget. We'd pay £10 or under, booking on the night, for a weekday, tentatively ask about extending our stay over the weekend and they'd say sure, £20 a night, which i could not afford. The hostel sites are great if you have time to book in advance and are able to get online to pay, but I was winging it day by day as I didn't have a house.
