Dunno whether to post this in here or rants really... Rock Band, one of the games I've been looking forward to for absolutely ages, has been priced for Europe... Bear in mind it's $180 for the game, drums, mic and guitar in America (And on the PS3 the guitars aren't compatible with Guitar Hero and vice versa)... Now... What's the pricing in the UK? £130. Not extortionately more I hear you say, but you're wrong. That's JUST for the instruments. How much is the game? A further £50. £180 for ONE sodding game!!! I could (but wouldn't) buy a brand new 360 Arcade for that price! Hell, you could buy a Wii for that! EA have dropped the ball big time on this. £130 I could probably just about stomach, but the better part of 200 shiny new pound coins? Stuff it. that is v expensive I quite fancied that game when I saw it ... not that I have a console to play it on, mind you I'm seriously considering importing it... I was expecting it to be about £100/120 for the whole lot, but for £180 it actually works out cheaper to import it (subject to customs charges, but that'd only be about £10/20 more)... PS3s are region free, so that's not an issue =)

Next gen consoles aside, Final Fantasy 7 is the best game has ever been, and will ever be created. True fact. Holla.

What is with you guys...? FFVII is okay at best. It's the traditional FF elements of it (and to a small degree, the storyline) that save it from being a little bit not very good. The out-of-battle graphics. Poor translation. Glitches. Yuffie in general, especially her Wutai subquest. Disc 3 being just the last level and boss fights. Barrett's excessive !"$£%ing. The wtf-it's-actually-materia Temple Of The Ancients. Holding down a button to run. Honest to God, I really could go on.

I could start on what it is with Pokémon, but I can't be arsed.
Do keep in mind I never said I hate FFVII. It's just probably the most over-hyped game in existance.

The wtf-it's-actually-materia Temple Of The Ancients. Holding down a button to run. Honest to God, I really could go on. Let's get one thing straight: The storyline to FFVII is complete genius, the best storyline there has ever been for any game. When the game came out, despite the 'out of battle graphics', they were mind blowing! Especially the FMV's. Sure it's outdated now, but who cares, I would actually be upset if they remade it with perfect hi-def graphics. The translation is dodgy in about three parts in the whole game, and that hardly ruins it now does it, it's pretty easy to understand. Glitches? The game came out over ten years ago and was three discs long! The amount of data for one game was amazing. Disc three also contains the longest FMV in the game, hence there is not a huge amount of playing going on. But I don't see why that would make it a bad game..? As for Yuffie and Barret...it's called characterisation! And Barret was in my final team to, and whilst Yuffie was annoying she still holds a special place in my heart. I honestly don't believe you prefer Pokemon to FFVII though.

Why's that? I don't like FFVII, I like Pokémon. If it helps, I like several other FFs more than I do Pokémon.

Because FFVII has the best storyline and the best characters ever, and Pokemon has no storyline and no characters? The main character doesn't speak! FFVII has an innovitive battle system (materia my personal favourite in any RPG), Pokemon have four moves and most of them do the same thing. And more importantly 'cos you're over the age of 10? I play Pokemon from time to time, but it is what it is. A basic fun little game that is regurgeted every few years with VERY minor changes. FFVII for me, and most people that played it, was a life changing experience.

I'm not a FPS player (as such), a RPG player, an MMORPG player. I'm a Sim-Racer. If it ain't realistic, I don't like it. (console games not included) I have the full set-up for sim-racing, that looks like the following:

Blimey... as mentioned earlier, I can't be arsed at the moment, so I won't delve into everything that's so horribly wrong with that post. But I can get started with this. Because FFVII has the best storyline and the best characters ever, and Pokemon has no storyline and no characters? That's not a reason to like FFVII more than Pokémon, that's an opinion. Pokémon has got a storyline (I know for a fact you've played either Diamond or Pearl, you know that whole thing about Sinnoh being created and Team Galactic trying to control Dialga/Palkia for their own noisome misdeeds? Storyline.) and characters - there are 493 Pokémon, for a start.

My 'VideoGame chat' would be more appropriate for the nostalgia thread. RPGs in the SNES days like Terranigma, Secret of Mana, A Link to the Past and Chrono Trigger, classics like Yoshi's Island, Tetris Attack and Super Probotector...then on the N64; Blast Corps, Perfect Dark, Lylat Wars, Ocarina of Time, Mystical Ninja, Body Harvest, Jet Force Gemini, WWF Wrestlemania and more...Championship Manager, Theme Hospital, The Curse of Monkey Island and Age of Empires on the PC...
I only tend to play multiplayer games (with friends, I've never played online) these days. I still enjoy a blast on Perfect Dark, Super Smash Bros. Melée and Mario Football on the Gamecube, and the newest Pro Evo. Some Wii games are fun too. Wario Ware is mental.

But Kev... Surely your opinion that FFVII is overhyped is the same as all of OUR opinions that FFVII is perhaps the greatest game ever created?
I'm sure we could all argue til the cows come home about which is the better game yada yada yada, and you could tell us all that FFVII is overhyped whilst not listening to a single thing we say, but hey... I know for a fact that FFVII is unlike any game I have ever played. I haven't put that many hours into any game before or since that one, I've never been a fan of RPG's since then, but I'm pining for an FFVII remake on the PS3... Sure the graphics aren't amazing (now), but for the time they pushed the Playstation as much as anything else on that system. The whole levelling up system/materia/slots system has never quite been the same after that IMHO, and it's partly the reason I've not been arsed to play anything after VII (The blitzball in X was fun though)
I'm not gonna comment on Pokemon, because aside from Blue (which I once spent 8 hours straight playing on a coach trip to France), I've not had any inclination to play them...

Because FFVII has the best storyline and the best characters ever, and Pokemon has no storyline and no characters? Ok, but compare that storyline to the intricate tale in FFVII, and the fact that even the smallest side characters have their own back stories that all link together and it's not even on the same scale. And Pokemon don't have personalities, they just say there own name repeatedly.

Anyone who likes Pokemon over the age of 12 is a bit sad I can understand why people may take this (rather blunt) view, especially with the cartoon and the toys, they're definitely aimed at children. The games however are rather sophisticated RPGs with a lot more to them than people might think. For the record, I'm nearly 21.
