I'll begin at the beginning then. Yes. I am going to Fiji from Perth. I made a flight to Sydney no problem but I wasn't allowed on the plane to go to Auckland where my next connection to Fiji is. They kept telling me that what I had was an itinerary, not a ticket (the same papers I've successfully used on all previous flights) and that I couldn't board the plane. They tell me this after I've been through customs and checked my bag and everything. Fuckers. I'm so pissed off. Not just with them but my travel agents STA aswell. I couldn't get through to them on the phone to sort this mess out and if I left it until the next day I wasn't going to make my connection to Fiji which would just mess everything up.
So I bought another ticket for 137 squid so I could fly the same day and still make my connection. I'm in Auckland in NZ now, and have been to rant at STA who have refuted all responsibility saying that according to their system I was issued with a separate ticket for that flight, and they cannot be held responsible for me losing it (quite a difficult thing to lose, something you were never given). What's worse is they have no record of my payment for this particular flight (they do for the rest?!) and as a result they aren't going to issue me with a refund or credit transfer of any kind.
I'm so fucking angry with the condescending bitch that dealt with me I could ram her face against a post. I suppose that's what insurance is for though. *sigh* I need a drink.

does your itinerary specifically mention the flight you weren't allowed to board?! If not, then I would guess everything you've been told is true and that it's your mistake!

I assume Mike has a RTW ticket (Star Alliance?) and therefore he should have the option to be flexible its the whole point of the ticket and on those kind of tickets you are higher up the pecking order than regular customers, so its not his problem, its Air New Zealand's.

It was on the ticket. The Thai flight was. Anyway I'm in Fiji now. And I ain't using STA travel again if I can help it. They've just buggered up my flight back aswell. One of my quantas flights is a paper ticket not an e ticket as they said just the day before yesterday so I'm going to go out of my way to pick it up from a courier at some obscure airport.
Ah well. I've got a litre of jim beam duty free (about 11 quid) so it's not all bad ;D

Everyone says Nadi is a shithole but I don't know what they're on about to be honest! I quite like it. The hotel where I'm staying is about 7 quid a night and there's a pool, free pool tables, free cinema (showing quite random films indeed) etc etc. Center of towns a bit weird and I'm suspicious because everyone's so helpful!
And no my insurance ran out last week. Must get round to renewing that

And no my insurance ran out last week. Must get round to renewing that I'm surprised they didn't push the hard sell when you went into STA to buy the tickets, the guy at STA at Euston Road rang us up several times to mention insurance because we mentioned wanting to go black water rafting, and we gave in (alas no Zorbing for Vicki), I guess you need it but when I didn't actually smash my face in holiday the excess was so large I had to pay for it myself and didn't want anybody taking my teeth out in Peru, so I flew home early. Oh by the way, the way they push Oz in STA is ridiculous "oh you really have to go to Bryon Bay" err no cause i'm not a bloody hippy.

I got my insurance from a group through the LP website. Never been asked by STA about it (!). Odd.. Byron bay isn't too bad but yeh hippy central ;D

You're missing out, though i've never been backpacking with anyone before, i've had a wicked time going solo, do what you want, when you want, no problems of find two or three dorm beds etc. But hey, its kinda foolish, we solo backpackers have guts. Really, you can't have had a travel consultant interested in commission, I won't complain, ours was easy on the eye, going back to see him in November to sort out some more tickets down to Costa Rica. He gave us student cards even though our student cards has expired! My ISIC therefore had BPP Professional Education on making me look like a right money hungry bint. Don't like hippies much, they pretend to be communist but they lack the soul.
