news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7333496.stmThis really pisses me off... With these new measures the rich are gaining more money, and the poor are getting poorer. How the fuck is that right? I'm going to be losing out on about £85 a year if I can count properly. On minimum wage and 30 hours a week and a car to run, that's alot of money to me, a hell of a lot of money in fact. I know you're going to say, why not get rid of the car? Well if it wasn't for me having a car, I wouldn't have a job here as one of the reasons I've been kept on here was so we could do some more call outs. EVERYTHING is going up in price, yet minimum wage is not going up enough for people to live on. I'm just glad that I live with my parents still, I feel sorry for the people who are on a wage like mine and have to keep a house or flat going... I'm struggling enough as it is to keep just a car running and having a little left to spend on myself.

I agree, the abolition of the 10% tax rate is a low blow by the government. Lots of people working at my place of work will be affected... they will get a nasty surprise in their April pay packet, as I suspect that many people just aren't aware of it happening. The government has argued that Working Tax Credits will make up the shortfall but not everybody qualifies for those.

it does seem like a very odd decision for a Labour government to make ... you would think they'd be all over taxing the rich more to benefit the poorer elements of society.
Personally speaking, my take home pay has gone up as a result of this change. But Nance's will have gone down ... swings and roundabouts as a household I suspect.

I don't actually understand why we pay so much tax...
I pay tax on my wage I pay tax on everything I buy (17.5%) I pay road tax for my car I pay fuel duty (AKA Tax) for petrol I pay Value Added TAX on my petrol
So effectively I'm being taxed, for paying tax, for paying tax, for paying tax, for paying tax.
If this government had any sense they'd at least scrap VAT on fuel as we're already paying a stupid amount of fuel duty...
Bugger moving to a different part of the country for a new job... I'm seriously considering moving to an entirely different country for a new job!

How do you think your education was paid for ? How do you think benefits are paid for ? How do you think roads are built and maintained ? I can't argue that VAT on fuel is high, but it won't be scrapped ... if it was, then we'd get taxed higher elsewhere or we'd simply have to get less from our public services ... are you willing to sacrifice that ? Best thing to do is suck it up and not think about it ... if you find you can't survive on what you earn, you have 2 choice : 1. Reduce your outgoings 2. Increase your earnings

Well, it's presuming that when you do go - in your late 80's or whatever, leaving your countryside mansion to your three children after paying tax on every brick, tax on every man-hour you've put in, and tax on every inch of road you've travelled on to get there - the government will take almost half of it back anyway in what is described as "the perfect tax" by Government officials (perfect in that they consider that it doesn't "hurt anyone").
Then you can rest in peace... safe in the knowledge that 40% of your entire life is now going towards drug addicts on benefits or wars against irritating middle-eastern countries who happened to be built on top of all our oil.

don't forget that you only pay the higher rate of tax on earnings over the threshold not your entire salary
