I've missed playing the guitar. I really damaged my hand a few years back and only have just recovered now. I may have funny looking ears, but they're god send for figuring out guitar parts. Sonorous Capo at 5th Fret Intro - Start at the 12th fret with the A minor chord A minor E Major F Major C Major B/C Major Cheers! *tries to find tabs for all these chords*

You just need to sort of press the note, but not. Basically you want to stop the string from ringing when its strummed. If it's in a chord you just want to have one of your fingers touching the string, or you can rest your strumming hand on the strings to mute all strings at once.

It's more like hitting the cymbal whilst holding it.
If you're palm muting (normally written as PM on a tab), you want to rest your picking hand across the string as you play. Best example of this is All My Life by the Foo Fighters.
If you're muting notes, it's as said above. Best examples are the rap-style parts in By the Way by the Chilis. John is basically covering all the string with his fretting hand and strumming quickly to make the scratchy/clicky sound.

As far as I can tell Tracing Lines is something like this:
Listen to song for the rhythm and changes
E A D g b e
Verse
x 3 2 0 0 x, 3 2 0 0 0 x x 3 2 0 0 x, 3 2 0 0 0 x x 3 2 0 0 x, 0 10 m 12 x x x 3 2 0 0 x, 3 2 0 0 0 x
Pre Chorus
0 2 2 0 3 3, 0 3 2 0 3 3 G5, B5, G5, B5, A5 (or just play G like they do live, 320033) 0 2 2 0 3 3, 0 3 2 0 3 3
Chorus (G, C9, Em7, D)
3 2 0 0 3 3 0 3 2 0 3 3 0 2 2 0 3 3 x 0 0 2 3 2
0 3 2 0 3 3, 0 2 2 0 3 3, x 0 0 2 3 2
Bridge
C5, E5, B5. C5, G5 x3 C5, B5, E5
Thats pretty much it apart from a few tiny parts and the solo

Grants never seemed to be the biggest user of palm muting, though uses it a bit ore suttley in other songs, Polaroid, etc. Have a listen to the very beggining of Waiting For Changes (not live versions) which is palm muted, until the drums kick. Gives you a good idead of the sound to achieve from palm muted till played openly. PM: Office blocks, corner shops, traffic jams on every street, The same old rush around (played normally): Obsolete, I'm a freak, In a show on Brighton beach, As the snow comes down

anyone knows the guitar parts that Dean plays live? I've figured his Buck Rogers' part, but it's hard to figure his riffs in other songs. For example, Day in Day Out. Anyone knows them?

Yeah, seems Grantley does the rhythm, while Dean does the lead.

Dean plays the same as Grant in the Intro and adds some subtle but cool effects in the verse, 2nd verse he plays single notes at the beginning of each line.. & plays the same few notes repeatly in the Chorus, check the Day In Day Out video @ MCM Cafe
