Random one, I know, but Lincoln's only cinema, the Odeon, have increased their ticket prices to £9 a ticket recently. There's a big campaign going on at the moment to try and get the hike reversed, and I'm just interested to see what the average price is on here. If you could say a location and the price, that'd be ace! £9 a ticket is outrageous, especially seeing as it's £2 extra for 3D!

Well if I go to a big 3D cinema, it's Lincoln I go to, so I feel your pain! If not, I just go to West End Cinema in Boston which is about £6 a ticket.

Last weekend we went to the cinema in Southampton and paid £8.75 each. This weekend I went to the cinema in Eastleigh and paid £8.95 so similar to you.
It's cheaper during the day before 5pm but seriously, that's so unfair because that excludes all the hard working people who do 9-5 type jobs and can't get to the cinema then and have to pay more.
I always take my only drink and nibbles because I refuse to pay their prices for popcorn/snacks.

Newcastle-under-Lyme - £6.60 usual peak price. Tuesdays are £4, and Orange Wednesdays buy one get one free for Orange customers. Stoke-on-Trent Odeon - £7.20 - and the Newcastle cinema is newer, better, cleaner...there's also a Film Theatre that shows lesser-known films, it's £5 there but it's ran largely by volunteers.
Edit - I think it was £15 the last time I went to the cinema in London, that was the same for the big chain and smaller arthouse cinema.

In Curzon Eastbourne I pay £4.30ish as a student, otherwise about £7. The quality of the cinema reflects the low prices though. In Cineworld Eastbourne it's about £6 for students, around £8.50 adult. Nothing to complain about there

In Portsmouth at the Vue cinema it's £7.30 for a basic adult ticket or £9.25 for a posh seat. Add £2.60 for each ticket if it's a 3D showing! So, does Lincoln seem all that bad now?! Going to the cinema is expensive these days, whever you go, unless you get a discount during the day or Orange Wednesday discount. *edit* For reference, the Odeon in Port Solent is £8.35 for a basic adult ticket, not even 10% cheaper than yours, so it's hardly the big scandal you're making it out to be imho.

Lincoln's £9 for basic, £10.10 for posh seats and an extra £2 for 3D... So yeah, it still seems that bad Lincoln's not exactly the most affluent place in the country, and every other cinema around is about £6/7. The only reason they're charging what they are is because they're the only cinema in the city.

Port Solent Odeon also add £1.10 for a posh seat and £2 for a 3D film. So, you're making a fuss over 65p difference in a ticket for the same supplier between Portsmouth (also not exactly affluent) and Lincoln? It's not even a 10% difference ... The only time you get large deltas is when you compare Odeon to other cinema chains and even then, the difference is not exactly massive. Plus, it's unfair to compare suppliers as they all have different pricing structures. Maybe there are local costs to Lincoln Odeon that mean they have to charge higher than other Odeon's in the UK? i.e. higher land prices, more staff proportionally, higher build costs for the facility?! Maybe before now they were making a loss to get people to come but can no longer to afford to do that, hence the increase ?! At the end of the day, if you don't like the price, don't pay it. I hardly use my orange wednesday codes, you can have them from me if you want them!

Hehe this will not be of much help to any of you,but I mostly go to Pathé in Rotterdam. You pay around 9 euro's in the evening, but in the morning and on Sundays, you get a discount! You are not allowed to bring your own snacks though!

I seriously doubt they're making a loss... They've not given any reasons for the increase at all, it's just "because they can"...
As for the price, I'm not paying it. I have one free ticket on my card from when I was a regular, and I intend to use that then take my business to a different cinema, that has free parking, charges £6.30 a ticket and has an amazing atmosphere. It's a bit further to drive, but it's now my regular cinema.
For a place such as Lincoln to have the most expensive cinema in the country outside of London is a bit of a kick in the balls, frankly. I appreciate they have to make money, but exploiting a monopoly is messed up.

Over the past 6 months they've stepped it up by a pound, this time last year I think it was around £7.50. I've been miffed off with their prices for a while now (only gone on Weds), but I think the round figure of £9 has just tipped it for a helluva lot of people

Single adult cinema tickets just shaft you completely. That's why I buy a Cineworld Unlimited card for £14.99 per month, I think admission is nuw up to £8.60 for an adult in the evening :S

The prices at Vue in Leeds depend on the day and time. But i looked up prices for Saturday when i'm off to see HP and it's £7.75.
Odeon in Bradford is £7.85.
Cottage Road in Leeds is £5.50 but they only have 1 screen and as it's in the middle of studentville tickets sell out fast! Still if you can get in popcorn and drinks are a lot cheaper.

Peterborough is about £8-10 for a ticket depending on time and 3d Plymouth has a big Vue so it's about £9something for 3D and maybe £7 with student ID or so...
we only ever go on Wednesdays, as we can use student discount with orange wednesday making it about £3.50 each or so...
in the biggest cinema in budapest we paid 1,500ft for two tickets to an english screening of harry potter (original language screenings are few and far between and often more money) which is about £5! result.
