Thought I'd post this for anyone that doesn't know about it. Basically, to stand up against the horribleness that is Simon Cowell's manipulation of the music world and the annual X-Factor Christmas number one, there is a huge campaign to get 'Killing In The Name Of...' to number one on Sunday! Apparently it's already got half a million people pledged to buy it (whether they actually do is another thing of course!) So if, like me, you get really pissed off at the death of the Christmas number one, and the state of British music at the moment in general, buy Rage Against The Machine 'Killing In The Name Of...' before Sunday. Fuck you Simon Cowell, I won't do what you tell me. www.nme.com/news/rage-against-the-machine/48854

it'd be so much better if people bought this instead i have to say though ... this plot to buy anything instead is just as much a de-valuing of the Christmas Number 1 as the X Factor single. In fact, the whole chart system is flawed now anyway ... see Chris Moyle's attempt to get a John Barrowman track into the charts!

I've bought it this morning......like to see it get there, but it didn't work last year, so I'm not gonna get my hopes up. X Factor also seems to have been absolutely fucking huge this year compared to other years. Gonna take a monumental effort to get to number 1.

Whilst I agree any campaign to get anything to no1 is a bit of a mockery of the charts, it's I'd much sooner buy a track I like that came out years ago instead of some gash that's being "properly" released.
The new singles chart rules are a bit silly really.
Still, if it works and pisses Cowell off then it's done its job. The arrogance of the man when he said "It's going to ruin the party for these kids"... You're not entitled to the Xmas number 1, you prick.

Anyway yeah, of course it's a flawed idea but as Ben said Cowell's head is stupidly huge and it's just nice to be able to say your not one of his puppets.

I dont like the RATM song, its rubbish! its just a bloody horrible noise! This years X-Factor song is gorgeous tho, and i've bought it! Joe is an amazing singer, infact i'd say he's the first X-Factor winner who actually deserves to be No1. I'll buy what i want just ''cos i like it not ''cos someones told me to

That x factor song is absolute dross.
At least it's creating a bit of interest around Christmas no.1...i haven't even checked what the no.1 was for the last few Christmasses because it's just been pointless.

And all these people wanting us to buy the Rage song, well, its no different to Cowell wanting people to buy the xfactor song! The Rage fans are themselves doing exactly what they hate about Cowell and I'm surprised no ones picked up on that yet. everyones as bad as eachother!

Well its just the X-factor song already has a huge advantage because it gets pushed into the public's eyes via a big fat corporate tv show for maximum profit.

The X Factor has been an "orchestrated campaign" to get to no1 for the last few months... I don't really see how that's different to trying to get RATM to no1... As for them both being signed to Sony, a lot of people making this point are going "Oooh, way to show you're against capitalism, by buying something that's on the same label"... It's not about being against capitalism, it's about a) showing how utterly ridiculous the chart system is, and b) trying to prove that X-Factor doesn't have to be number 1 at Christmas. In my opinion, the song's a bit naff. It's a Miley Cyrus track that's on her current album. There's no need to cover it and release it, although on the other side, at least they've not murdered a classic this year (unlike last year's horrendous effort). I think the thing that annoys me the most is that sense of entitlement he has. Put X Factor on in the summer and I wouldn't give a toss, but the Xmas number 1 was a massive part of my childhood and it's been ruined now

I don't think the Christmas Number 1 is particularly relevant any more. Just the same as the charts. Now that there's no TOTP on the tele ... how many of us could actually say who's in the charts week to week ?
It used to be that if you got into the Top 5 or even Top 10 you were doing ok. Now, if you don't get a number 1 you've had it.
The whole system is a sham.

iTunes are promoting RATM on the front page, and they've made the album £3.95. Brilliant.

You gotta check this out! Rage Against the Machine was on Radio 5 and played live for them. They were asked not to say the line "FUCK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!", but to censor themselves... ...it didn't work too well, let's just put it that way: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiiQPqmYE1A
