I would've liked to have seen the match tonight, alas, no Sky. My team are Stoke City, one point on Sunday and we're in the Premiership. Fellicking arésecakes. We were almost there in the last game, had Hull not scored towards the end against Crystal Palace, though the ending of our last two matches have been nerve-wracking holding on to one-goal leads after dominating for large parts of the game. An easy win on Sunday I hope...Leicester need to win to avoid relegation too so it could be tough.

We won't do as badly as Derby have this. And remember, we held the record for the lowest points total in the old 1st Division, until Sunderland beat that recently, and now Derby...so perhaps that is a record we want back... Stoke were a joke club for a few years, it was like a soap opera, down to things like the manager and assistant manager at the time refusing to speak to each other. The last 18 months have been quite refreshing. Slightly unknown fact: Stoke are unbeaten in European competition. We've never progressed though as every game was a draw and we went out on away goals.

heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey! chlo is slightly hammered, very hyper with pretty much only one coherant thought....
chelseas going to moscow, chelsea going to moscow la la la la la la la la!
*ahem*
awesome game, think i went through pretty much every emotion going, with one main thought of "please not penalties anything but penalties"
oh and can anyone clear up a query - in extra time tonight, would the away goal rule still have counted? in pub we pretty much came to conclusion that we thought away goals still came into play, but that it wasn't very fair if they did..... too much alcohol been drunk for me to trust our judgement though!

The away goal rule counts after extra time in the UEFA Cup so I assume it's the same in the Champions League. There was an amazing game between Getafe and Bayern Munich that ended 1-1 after both 90 mins (2-2 on aggregate). Extra time finished 3-3 (4-4 aggregate) and Munich went through on away goals.
Getafe should have so gone through, it was so harsh. There were some amazing goals too.

ta alex.
hmm, ok, i still think its a bit unfair, 'cos you only get extra time at one ground in the 2nd leg so the away team gets an advantage!
thank god it didn't come to that though!

They should do what they did with the FA Cup, and move the semis to a neutral venue.

I still think Avram Grant should be shot.

Oh, and does anybody else think Steve Harper should be given a chance in the England squad? Some of the saves he's made this season have been outstanding!!

Heheh I was supporting Liverpool - ahhh well out of the teams in the final I would much rather see Chelsea win - don't like Alex Ferguson! Shall be interesting to see if Rangers can pull through tonight - part of me would like it to happen as it is good for Scottish football although part of me doesn't because I just know all the Rangers supporters would be incredibly big headed (and I have a distinct dislike of both Rangers and Celtic)

I still think Avram Grant should be shot. Why? And Steve Harper? You'd be better off recalling Nigel Martyn. (No offence to Nige, he was an awesome keeper, but he's like old now.)

They should do what they did with the FA Cup, and move the semis to a neutral venue. don't think thats really possible though? bearing in mind it's europe-wide, for logisitical and planning purposes venues would have to be selected well before it was known what teams would be competing. no way of guarenteeing neutrality. nah i like the 2-legged home and away system for europe. the away goals/extra time thing comes up so rarely though i wasn't sure what the process was. thanks james, tbh i was hoping for barce in the final. after saturday man utd are gonna be well up for beating us - think a lot is gonna depend on what happens in the prem. leeds verdict 5pm today.

Could be fun.
Was just a suggestion really. What I had in mind was three stadiums from one country, say if it was being held in England then you'd have the Emirates and Stamford Bridge for the two semis, then Wembley for the final. I understand there could be a team that ends up playing in their home stadium, but a 50-50 allocation of tickets goes some way to sorting that out. It's just down to the luck of the draw.
Look at it this way, if Rangers make it to the UEFA Cup final - being held at Man City's Eastlands - then it's more in favour of Rangers than it is for Bayern/Zenit SP, but it's still neutral. If Everton made it to the final, they'd be as-good-as at home with the final in Manchester, but it's usually more about the fans being the 12th man than the travelling distance that makes the difference, so a 50-50 ticket allocation would sort that.

true, yeah i see your point. and spot-on with 50-50 allocation of tickets. the champs league final in Moscow - capacity of just over 80,000. Chelsea and man utd will get around 21,000 tickets each. so around half the stadium will be full of who? corporates, sponsors and fans of various other teams who got tickets months ago. (and if those tickets get sold on to Chelsea/man utd fans, bang goes any segregation of opposing fans...) oh and how many hotel rooms are there in Moscow i hear you ask? 30,000. GREAT forward planning there UEFA
