I actually didn't mind The Lovely Bones all that much. I thought it was watchable. Finally got my act together and watched a Star Wars film for the first time this morning. It could've been good, the basic storyline I mean. But it was just ruined by needless CGI, annoying little pointless bits and just the fact it was so unreal. I'm not explaining it very well but it had such a harrowing story and yet was emotionless and at times laughable. I love PJ but he was so concerned about the visuals he forgot the characterization. Yes yes yes yes yes. Ugh. The book definitely wasn't that bad, think the film was just completely ruined by OTT visuals, as you say.

Watched quite a few films this week. Was in a bit of a horror mood which turned out to be a bit of a mistake...
Paul - Brilliant, as expected! Easily as good as Shaun & Hot Fuzz, loved it.
Splice - Wtf? Just...weird. And a bit silly.
Devil - Had about one creepy moment. Pretty bad for a horror. Also saw the 'twist' coming a mile off. Although that's the thing about M Night Shylaman, you always know there is going to be one so you look out for it.
Outcasts - A British Werewolf/supernatural type thing with James Nesbitt. It was....well...terrible.

Let Me In - A vampire film with a twist. Not great as several times it built up to a scary/gory moment it cut away! Not one of these people that only basis a film on action and gore but it was frustrating.
Skyline - Not as terrible as the reviews made out. Well ok, maybe it was a bit terrible, but I am a bit of a sucker for giant aliens/monsters coming to kill you films like this, Cloverfield, War Of The Worlds etc..
Hot Tub Time Machine - Like The Hangover but nowhere near as good. Some great moments though and entertaining.
Red - It was very fast and kinda predictable just pretty enjoyable, especially the action scenes. And John Malkovich (legend).
The Town - Ben Affleck can't act, but apparently he can direct, a very well made and enjoyable film.

Not one of these people that only basis a film on action and gore but it was frustrating. You should watch the Swedish original - Let The Right One In. It's the best vampire movie I have ever seen, but I hope seeing the awful Hollywood remake doesn't ruin anything for you. I also saw Paul and could see what Pegg/Frost meant when they said they had to appeal to a broader audience with their writing. Not gonna call them sell-outs (it was still enjoyable) but it wasn't as good as SotD or Hot Fuzz. I'm currently downloading Sharktopus in case one random night I feel like not caring what I watch, and Tangled, which I hear is awesome. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, I'm going to watch Submarine this Saturday. I am bloody looking forward to that!

And John Malkovich (legend). . agreed, Red was fun - and the film the Expendables wanted to be (please avoid the expendables, its awful! crying out for a plot, any kind of plot!) Burke & Hare- enjoyable, loads and loads of cameos, slightly dodgy history but decent nights watch.

Animal Kingdom, a crime thriller. 'Twas very good, perhaps a contender for best Australian film I've seen along with Rabbit Proof Fence.
